Hey, Gang - here's a little LINKEDIN LUNACY for a rainy Thursday ... HARD TIMES AT MICROSOFT? Allen Ruddock told yesterday's LinkedInLocal Guildford crowd about features LinkedIn is 'retiring - probably as part of a cunning plan to 'encourage' free users to upgrade to a Premium account (Boo!) THIS TIME, IT'S PERSONAL... Today I've been inviting fellow attendees to Connect on LinkedIn (that's the idea, right?) with a personal note for politeness (and as a handy record of where and when we met). I often get a cheery Reply when people Accept, which ovewhelmingly they do (Huzzah!) SHOW ME THE MONEY! I just got this creepy Message from LinkedIn: "No free personalized invitations left. Free personalized invites will renew next month. With Premium, you can personalize all of your connection requests. Cancel anytime, for any reason. Reactivate Premium" My reaction? 'Go forth and multiply' - and try to understand how real, warm human beings prefer to interact, and that taking things away from users is really not the best way to build brand loyalty (Sigh!) 🙀 This 'innovation' (limiting personlised invites to around 10 per month for free accounts) was mooted some weeks ago and vociferously objected to by the LinkedIn Nerdiverse (including yours truly), after which they claimed to have shelved the idea. Clearly, they lied! #LinkedInOwnGoal
