"There is no greater power than a community discovering what it cares about." - Margaret Wheatley. Tha Par chose this quote when delivering opening statements at the Burma Center before handing the mic over to new CEO Christina Khim at an event to celebrate being awarded a $1million Community Center Grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and a $250,000 gift from the Denso North America Foundation towards their Capital Campaign. Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist also joined the event to give special remarks, along with other distinguished guests representing local and state government including State Rep Jim Haadsma, Mayor Behnke, and Mayor of Springfield Harry Burdett. The Burma Center plays a critical role in our community, from addressing childcare needs to providing advocacy, support, and services to our Burmese American community. Members of the BCU team were honored to be a part of the event and we congratulate the Burma Center on these awards. We are grateful to be part of a community of businesses, leaders, and organizations that come together and make things happen.
