The City of Stirling is at at a Nexus with its upcoming Council and Resources committee this Tuesday where they will consider whether to support the Hector St safe active street project. Should be an interesting discussion! There will be impacts for the City’s active transport strategies in the future one way or the other. Check out the interim report evaluating the current operation of 4 km of the Moorland St safe active street which runs from Odin Road to West Coast Highway Scarborough. I’m staggered as to how much misunderstanding there is in the general community from well educated stakeholders of how safe active streets generally operate in allowing slow each way moving traffic in a 30 Kph zone - I think it’s more to do with fear of change and what as a community we are willing to compromise and live with for the greater good in terms of road safety and the activation of other transport modes. As a community, changes like this don’t happen overnight as can be seen in many examples from around Australia and the rest of the world.

The Minns and Albanese governments continue to partner with local governments across New South Wales to get high-priority road and community infrastructure off the ground. This includes partnering with Singleton Council to replace Brunners Bridge, thanks to $6.5 million from the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads Program and $700,000 from the Albanese Government’s Bridges Renewal Program. It is fantastic to see all levels of government working together to make a project like this possible. Gresford Road is an essential route for residents and the agricultural suppliers of the region. This bridge replacement will allow larger trucks that can carry more freight per trip to safely cross the bridge. Replacing the bridge and facilitating access for more efficient trucks will also have a positive impact in lowering heavy vehicle traffic volumes in the region. https://lnkd.in/gV72aCAx

Delighted to see Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan T.D joined by Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Cllr. Denis O’Callaghan, Chief Executive Dlr Frank Curran, Anne Graham, CEO of National Transport Authority and Jim Meade, CEO of Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail to turn a sod to mark the commencement of construction of Woodbrook, Iarnród Éireann’s newest DART Station. Woodbrook Station, which is located between Bray and Shankill, will serve the existing and new communities of Woodbrook and Shanganagh. Funded by the National Transport Authority, the station will be at the heart of a new residential community of up to 2,300 housing units. Identified as a ‘Future Development Area’ in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan Core Strategy, the development at Woodbrook, together with the new station, supports transport and land-use policy, delivering a substantial compact sustainable residential community in Woodbrook-Shanganagh. The provision of the station will reduce reliance on the private car and assist Ireland in reaching its climate action targets. Did you know that the average transit-reliant New Orleanian can only reach 12% of the regions jobs in 30 minutes or less? Many riders spend over an hour each way on their daily commute. It wasn't always this way and it doesn't have to remain this way. This morning I had the opportunity to attend a breakfast briefing titled, "Why Public Transit Must Grow: The Case for Funding Greater New Orleans Transit," presented by Ride New Orleans. The panel included Eugene J. Green, Jr., Kelsey Foster, Kevin Ferguson, and Samuel Buckley, AICP. I haven't been dependent on public transportation since 1999, but I recognize that what effects some people in our community ultimately effects the entire community. A strong public transit system benefits the economy, and the climate, while improving equity. In time, it also reduces traffic! These are some of the reasons I'm in support of the work being done by Courtney Jackson, the rest of the team at RIDE New Orleans, and all of the community members who are working together rebuild our transit system.
