We've all been here before. Whether you are young in your career or a veteran professional, I know you've struggled with feeling misunderstood by someone way older or way younger than you. I know I have! "I can't believe how old-fashioned/outdated they are" "They have no idea what it's like to work hard" "They have no respect" "They don't care to understand" I can't tell you how many times I've heard friends and colleagues say comments like this about the people they work with. How can we increase collaboration across the many generations in the workforce? How can we change the narrative so we see opportunity instead of conflict when it comes to working with people of various ages? We're answering these questions and more at the next EchoTalks event: Managing The Generational Gap. We're bringing in panelists representing each generation in the workforce to have an open and honest conversation about how to increase collaboration and trust across ages. WHEN: June 18th, 9:00-10:30 WHERE: Goodwood Main Branch Library REGISTER: https://lnkd.in/gg9dZKR9 Register before April 15th for early bird access! Workplace Culturologist | Founder, The HR Plug | Employer-Employee Relationship Expert | Proactive Labor Relations
Many talented individuals find themselves stuck in toxic work environments, not because they lack options, but because they are deeply committed to the work they do. It's a difficult predicament, similar to the emotional turmoil of remaining in a toxic personal relationship because of deep care and hope for what could be. In the workplace, this translates to holding onto the potential impact of the organization's mission, despite the damaging environment. I understand the inner conflict this creates—how it can feel isolating, as if no one truly grasps the weight of the decision to stay or go. That’s precisely why I created UNPLUG—a community designed to offer a safe space for professionals like you. UNPLUG allows you to disconnect from environments that drain your spirit and focus instead on personal and professional renewal. Here, we prioritize well-being and provide the support you need to refocus on what truly matters: your health, your dreams, and your career aspirations. Join us at UNPLUG, where you can find the strength to make the best decision for your career and well-being. Find the city closest to you and register now: www.unplugevent.com

🎉 Happy Juneteeth!! America’s Intra Independence Day! 🎉 It’s important to both celebrate and to acknowledge that this battle is still ongoing. Systematic “silent” biases still exist as a hill to climb for POC that don’t exist for white folks. This is true in so many areas: housing, health care, job markets, etc. But as this is a LinkedIn post, I’ll focus on the job aspect. This is a long but fantastically referenced article on biases in the workplace that make it harder for POC to get interviews, get hired, and advance. I strongly encourage hiring managers and folks in HR to read it and consider ways you can make your hiring practices more equitable. For instance, giving the hiring manager a resume with the applicant’s name replaced by a number to help separate race and gender from the qualifications being assessed. https://lnkd.in/gWRtADjg

Hey, Vermonters and people who want to become Vermonters: our State of Vermont Office of Racial Equity is growing! Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/ebQXf--A (search Office of Racial Equity) “A lot of thought went into formulating the job specifications. Many people think of equity work as “soft” work, or as being less demanding or intellectually challenging than other professions. Don’t get your advice from these people. They are wrong. In reality, equity practitioners have needed a high level of analytical skill, particularly when evaluating the merits of policies or initiatives. They have needed a deep well of knowledge of national history, international history, research and statistical data, historical and present-day vocabulary and its impact, social psychology, and teaching pedagogy so they can communicate all this to others (at varying levels of understanding and openness, too). And they have needed to generate and nurture a tremendous amount of emotional and mental strength to filter through the skeptics, aggressors, and provocateurs in our midst. For all these reasons, this work is some of the most challenging and high-impact there could be. But we also know that in traditional hiring processes, organizations often get bogged down in corporate culture and the blueprint for what a “perfect” employee looks like, which often results in exceptional candidates being shut out based on arbitrary or unnecessary factors. Therefore, we crafted the minimum requirements carefully to be more inclusive in defining what “qualified” means, to ensure we are not falling into the common trap of equating prestige/power/privilege with potential for success. In other words, we want great candidates, and we believe in taking more of a holistic approach and less of a rigid/formulaic one. We have shared these positions beyond the typical channels as well—in addition to the dozens of platforms usually used, all HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) have received it, as well as professional associations and alumni networks in the Indigenous, Asian, Black, Latin@ (no, that’s not a typo), LGBTQIA+, and communities along the ability spectrum around the country and in Vermont.”
