**Exciting Case Today at Auburn Community Hospital!** Dr. P here, and I have a fascinating case lined up in Auburn, New York. Today, I'm treating a wonderful woman who unfortunately tore her ACL 3.5 to 4 years ago. It was torn off the femur (thighbone), but back then, I was able to sew it back onto the femur, and it healed nicely. She did very well for 3.5 years, returning to full-duty work, dancing, and more. Recently, unfortunately, she fell down the stairs and tore her ACL again. Her knee was swollen, showing the typical signs of an ACL injury. in addition, this time she also tore her medial meniscus. The MRI revealed the ACL tear was in the middle of the ligament, not at the original attachment site. This suggests the ACL is still viable with a good blood supply, making it a candidate for repair using the latest technology. Today, we're Going to see if we can attempt Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration (BEAR) procedure. This innovative technique allows us to sew a collagen implant between the torn ends of the ligament, promoting regrowth and healing. Fingers crossed for a successful outcome! Stay tuned for updates. EMIS customers now have access to Check and Cancel, which is proving to be a valuable asset in surgeries that were early adopters of the feature. Peel Hall Medical Practice in Manchester has assessed the impact that the feature has made since its implementation. They looked at a 7-week period between April and June, and compared it to last year. Over the 7-week period where Check and Cancel was offered, the surgery has seen a 0.5% drop in DNAs which equates to 34.5 appointments that would otherwise have been wasted. Whilst 0.5% may not seem significant, it is huge given their volumes, and this is likely to grow as patients get used to checking their appointments and know to turn up on the right day at the correct time. The number of patients who have previously failed to attend multiple appointments is also down, a whopping 2.6%.
