In the Trial, Barrigel was proven effective at achieving a clinically significant reduction in radiation dose to the rectum, leading to fewer rectal side effects. The radioembolization procedure reduces tumor size while patients wait for their turn on the transplant list. This minimally invasive intervention, known as Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) or Transarterial Radioembolization (TARE), involves injecting radioactively labeled microbeads selectively into the tumor-feeding arteries. Due to their small size (15-30 µm), TARE particles typically do not cause significant embolism. The procedure is non-surgical, enabling patients to be discharged just a day after treatment.
