🌟 Achievement Unlocked: Completed My First Speed Game Jam! 🌟 I’m thrilled to share that I successfully completed the 5th SpeedJam, a 72-hour game jam focused on creating games that can be speedrun. This was my first time participating in a game jam, and it was an incredible learning experience. 🚀 What I Learned: Mastered 2D platforming character controls Integrated online leaderboards using LootLocker Despite being nervous about the tight timeframe, I managed to finish my game and had a lot of fun along the way. This experience has not only improved my technical skills but also boosted my confidence in game development. 🎮 I look forward to applying these new skills in future projects and continuing my journey in the game development world. So how does the Good Empire Impact Games 2024 pilot actually work? For each of our G1-17 Global Goals, we have an impact goal. We'll be partnering with 3-5 impact partners (charities, social enterprises, community projects, etc) on each goal, setting up campaigns and challenges to engage participants. Individuals can join challenges, take action and donate through the Good Empire app. Organisations (companies, universities, schools, etc) can also join challenges, and engage their people (employees, customers, community) in impact. And everything is represented on our Global Impact Dashboard, so you can track your contributions and see the impact you're creating. You'll be rewarded in $GOOD for your impact, which can be redeemed in the Good Emporium for some cool stuff from our ethical and sustainable brand partners around the world. Let's talk about Riot Games. Some of the most impactful programs and initiatives I've encountered over the years have a crystal-clear connection to the company's core competency or unique strength. For Riot Games, that means gaming. Toward the end of every year, the company hosts a charity voting campaign. Here's how it works: 1️⃣ Through the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, they select 84 nonprofits across 28 regions 2️⃣ Funds raised by players through in-game fundraisers are allocated to a charity pool created for each participating country. 3️⃣ Players then vote for a nonprofit that resonates with them in any of the participating regions. 4️⃣ After voting ends, the nonprofit with the most votes from each region receive 50% of that region’s charity pool. The second and third place organizations receive 25% (Each participating nonprofit is eligible to receive at least $10,000 of the charity pool). In 2023, $4.5 million was donated to nonprofits thanks to Riot Games' Charity Voting Campaign. 🎩 Tip of the hat to the Riot Games team for implementing a practical way of turning gaming into an opportunity to make a positive impact AND getting the gaming community in on the action.

Titelbaum is a long-time friend of Gamers Engaged and exemplifies what it means to pair a love of games with the generosity of giving. Not only has he organized and led teams for the Gauntlet for many years, but Matthew has also recruited other teams and brought his team to volunteer at several organizations. We asked Matthew the ‘tough’ questions in our interview: Q: Why do you keep coming back to the Gauntlet year after year? A: The Gauntlet means a lot to me as a way to bring my colleagues together to give something back to the local community. I absolutely love being able to channel my passion for board games into philanthropy. I also really get a charge from industry competitors coming together for a greater good. Q: What's your favorite Gauntlet memory? A: My favorite Gauntlet memories are all about doing direct volunteering with the partner organizations with my team from Monolith. Whether it was cooking a meal for Youth Care, sorting donations at Wellspring Family Services, or volunteering for El Centro de la Raza’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration, it's always a treat to learn first-hand how these amazing organizations are impacting the community. It's this direct interaction with the beneficiaries that really inspires us to energetically fundraise for them. Q:What game are you currently obsessing over? Why? A: I don't know if obsessed is the right word here. I love teaching folks board and card games, and I pulled an older one off the shelf recently to introduce folks to. Archaeology: The New Expedition is a deceptively simple set collection card game from Phil Walker-Harding, one of my favorite designers. It's a great game to introduce to casual players. Q: If you were an in-game character - what game and what role would you play? A: I love the Red Dead Redemption (@rockstargames) series, and I like playing the rebellious lawman in them. But if I was going to inhabit that world, I'd be a Wild West doctor, treating all ailments with leeches, sassafras, and whiskey. I can't stand to see real blood, but video game blood seems more my speed. :-) Q: What's your alignment? A: Neutral Good, for sure.
