In a Kin-first culture, every effort is made to keep children safely at home and, if a child must be removed, to partner with the parent and family to determine where and with whom is the safest place within that family, community or tribe for the child to live. Follow the blog post linked below to learn more about the preservation and permanency of these important connections and the CFE Advisory Committee.

From single-parent to multi-generational families, two-household families, and chosen families, each unit plays a unique and invaluable role in society. By embracing diversity and supporting families in all their forms, we can build a more equitable and compassionate world for future generations. When I think of all the hard work being asked of special education teachers, the last thing I imagine is them not being paid well. I mean, it takes intensely gifted and highly-skilled individuals to join that team in the field. #specialeducation #specialeducationteachers #InclusiveEducation #SpecialNeeds #marylandschools #baltimoreschools #baltimoreteachers #marylandteachers
The Children’s Guild senior team and staff don’t just take a backseat when it comes to implementing change. They get behind the wheel and become the change they wish to see. They not only advocate for the children, families and communities served but also for the teachers and staff that work with them. "Engaged pedagogy", writes bell hooks, "does not seek simply to empower students. Any classroom that employs a holistic model of learning will also be a place where teachers grow, and are empowered by the process." We invite students to consider writing a blog post about their field experience over the summer. What questions are they holding? This piece is an attempt to participate holistically. In this process, I have come to also experience what Krista Tippet refers to as "living the questions". Here's to continued and collective learning!

For AFC board member Tamar Williamson taking action is deeply personal. It's a commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive, to evolve, and to become the best version of themselves. This belief fuels her dedication to the vital work being done by Action for Children. Child care professionals hold a multitude of roles to support the children in their care. It's more than just education; they are social workers, caregivers, mentors, and sometimes even janitors or accountants. It's a labor of love, driven by a profound sense of responsibility to ensure that every child has everything they need to succeed. Join Tamar in taking action for Early Childhood Education professionals and making a difference—one child, one family, and one community at a time. April is #SecondChanceMonth! At DFSS, we firmly believe in the transformative power of second chances. We recognize that individuals transitioning back into the community deserve not just one opportunity, but the chance to rebuild their lives and thrive. That's why DFSS is committed to funding a variety of programs and initiatives tailored to meet the unique needs of returning residents and those impacted by the justice system. Among these essential programs are our Community Reentry Support Centers, which provide vital support and resources to individuals navigating the challenges of reintegration. With approximately 11,000 individuals reentering the city of Chicago every year, the significance of our work cannot be overstated. As we embark on Second Chance Month, let's come together to acknowledge the immense potential for positive change when individuals are provided with opportunities and support. Remember, behind every success story is someone who believed in offering a chance for redemption and growth. #ReentryMatters #SecondChanceMonth2024 #DFSS #Chicago #SecondChances #CommunitySupport #TransformingLives #DFSSImpact
