📍 Our latest meta-analysis in the Journal of American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology shows that among patients with AF, a rhythm control strategy is superior to rate control in terms of cardiovascular death, stroke, and heart failure hospitalizations; this benefit is driven mostly by contemporary trials. The use of catheter ablation in the rhythm control group was linearly associated with reduced cardiovascular death, all-cause death, and heart failure hospitalizations. The message is clear: Maintain the sinus rhythm for as long as possible! The FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to Traumagel, a plant-based hemostatic gel developed by Cresilon, for treating moderate to severe bleeding. Traumagel, applied via a pre-filled syringe, is designed to rapidly stop significant bleeding from traumatic injuries at the point of care. This marks Cresilon's second FDA clearance, following approval in June 2023 for a gel addressing minor cuts and abrasions. Traumagel has shown positive results in preclinical tests, including those conducted with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, particularly in treating bleeding from traumatic brain injuries sustained in combat. Cresilon plans to launch Traumagel in the U.S. later this year, targeting the military, government health agencies, emergency medical services, and other trauma-focused professionals. Check out the results from a 2024 American College of Cardiology (ACC) poster presentation by Suzanne Baron, MD, MSc, Director of Interventional Cardiology Research, Massachusetts General Hospital and Faculty at The Baim Institute for Clinical Research, to assess the cost-utility of the CADScor System for the evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a low-risk patient population presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) with chest pain. The key findings from the study revealed that the "CADScor-First" strategy was economically dominant, leading to substantial cost savings compared to alternative non-invasive cardiac testing methods in low-risk patients presenting to the ED with chest pain. Additionally, the incidence of missed cardiac events with the CADScor System was remarkably low, indicating that the anticipated economic benefit did not compromise clinical outcomes.
