I think the Gig Economy has opened up lots of work availability for people who couldn’t manage a typical 9-5 job due to a number of reasons: childcare, illness, second job etc. The main problem with the gig economy is the large of provision (sick pay) if you cannot work. However, if you factor that in and get suitable income protection if possible then it should be a win-win for the majority of people.
Hopefully it's being used to create enough leverage to where you don't have to do it.
