I experienced the best fundraiser ever a few months ago. It was a win-win-win (..win..win..win) situation. My church was fundraising for a summer camp to send high-schoolers to. The high schoolers put on a "Parent's Night Out." One Saturday night they let parents drop off their kids for 3 hours. The high schoolers watched all the kids and had fun together. This was free, and they also accepted donations. It was awesome, on so many levels. So many wins Win 1- The Donor: They gave me something SO valuable, time with my spouse, rather than just asking me for money. I GLADLY donated. Win 2- The Recipient: The high schoolers gave of their own time and effort. They participated and contributed, and this creates ownership. Win 3- The Values: This is 100% aligned with the values the church is trying to foster. Intergenerational relationships. Generosity. Community. Trust. Attention to time building strong marriages. If we can creatively build this sort of infinite win situation into our non profits and businesses, we'll have done well.

I'm a long-time, active Foundation member. I know just how much our school districts rely on Foundation support to provide quality education. Funds raised provide additional teachers, specialists, programs, and tools that make our schools extraordinary places for learning. This benefits both homes values and school districts. A report by the National Bureau of Economic Research titled, “Using Market Valuation to Assess Public School Spending,” found that for every dollar spent on public schools in a community, home values increased by about $20. The philanthropy landscape is changing as new technologies emerge and new generations enter the market. Younger donors are turning to crowdfunding over giving in more “traditional” ways (IUPUI, 2021).  Case in point: GoFundMe recently announced that $30 billion has been raised for individuals through fundraisers and for nonprofits through Classy, its nonprofit fundraising software subsidiary. The platform has democratized access to resources and garnered community support on a wide range of issues and causes. This announcement underscores the growing value of utilizing grassroots initiatives and the simple – but oftentimes difficult – act of asking for help to drive positive change. Every year, 50,000+ children in the northeast region wake up without a present at Xmas; for many, this figure is shocking, but this is the reality of how things are. Unfortunately, this is the normality for many to wake up on Christmas morning without a present. Last year, thanks to a lot of generosity, they raised almost £6000 in toy and cash donations. Again, the goal is for Cool Designs to help back this project and do what they can to support it. This collection raises funds to get new toy donations to help ensure kids wake up to a present this Christmas.
