Did you know that once you call out to your smart speaker, it records everything you say and saves it in its database? According to the smart speaker providers (Amazon, Google, Apple), one of the reasons this happens is to improve the functionality of the device. But do your devices listen even when not commanded? We've all had experiences where we talked about vacationing somewhere or buying something, and soon after we notice related promotions in our social feeds. A simple test was done by employees of the NordVPN company where they placed their phones within listening range of their respective owners. Then, each person spoke about a specific topic. They then analyzed the advertising content being served to them on multiple platforms. Some test participants did not see any correlations between their topic and promotions, but one of the test participants, who talked about Volvo, did report that they were bombarded by advertising for the brand. This person did not even own a car, nor had they searched the Internet to buy a Volvo or any other kind of car. https://lnkd.in/ePFTc96v
Do our phones listen to our conversations? The answer is complicated

If you use text messaging, get ready for a change. As a marketer, this is important for you. You might not have heard of Rich Communications Services (RCS) unless you're in the telecoms or SMS industry. Introduced by Google, RCS has received strong support from carriers but has been exclusive to Android. This is changing now that Apple has announced RCS support in iOS 18 later this year. Think of RCS as a modernised SMS that feels more like iMessage or WhatsApp, but it doesn’t need the internet and runs on your cellular connection. For you as a consumer, RCS brings features like read receipts and high-quality video. But as a marketer, it offers even more: branded and verified senders, along with a range of rich messaging features. For me, as a marketer, RCS opens up a new, ubiquitous communication channel to engage with customers and better serve their needs. Learn more about RCS messaging with Twilio->

𝐌𝐄𝐅 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐔𝐒𝐀 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭 Total text messaging in the United States continues in rude health with approximately 2 trillion messages sent in 2023 (that is 5.48 billion per day!) while most of the rest of the world has seen SMS/ MMS volumes fall off a cliff with the arrival of OTT messaging apps. However, Apple's recently announced support of RCS messaging in iOS-18 (to be released later this year), and the long-awaited adoption of Google's RCS messaging platform by all major US mobile network operators, could be the trigger that will eventually send US messaging traffic down a richer route. Apple has finally announced its support for Rich Communication Services (RCS), a long-awaited move that could significantly enhance messaging experiences across different platforms. However, as my colleague Geoff Blaber outlines in his insightful blog, the devil will be in the details. While Apple's adoption of RCS is a positive step, there are still lingering questions about the company's true commitment to interoperability. Due to the personal nature of mobile phones, people tend to engage more with SMS messages. This makes it an effective channel for promotional offers, surveys, and other interactive campaigns. https://lnkd.in/dNydBnzP #bulksms #cheapbulksms #bestbulksmsprices
