Random share….I am generally more of a “salty food” person 🍿. But I’m a total sucker for a funfetti cupcake with vanilla frosting and lots of 🌈 sprinkles. As much as I love sprinkles, they can’t make a poorly baked cake taste good. Over the years, I’ve become hyper aware of situations where focus is put on the sprinkles before the cake. Online retailer that is missing product images and descriptions but focused on launching subscription functionality…..sorry, that’s sprinkles before cake. Launching a TikTok presence before you have a functioning website…..sorry, thats probably sprinkles before cake. Teaching a pitcher to throw a rise ball (or a drop or a curve or any other “spin” pitch) before they can locate a fastball…..sorry, that’s sprinkles before cake. It’s human nature to gravitate toward the flashy stuff. But if you care about long term impact, the basics have to be dialed in. #noshinyobjects #customerexperience #fundamentals #funfetti

Turns out the Valentines themed peanut butter heart is smaller by weight AND more expensive. Today is National Wear Cottage Cheese Day👇 No, not really. I needed an excuse to post a fave childhood pic with no intrinsic value. I don't like this trend of posting photos with no story, explanation, lesson, inspiration, or entertainment value. Sure, the photos are cute… edgy… endearing... And sometimes they get dozens – if not hundreds – of likes. And yet, the poster hasn't shared anything about their services, opinions, observations, lessons learned, or an invitation to join a conversation. HUH????? I have burning questions like, "Why did they post this other than for likes?" And with even more intense flames, "Why did so many people take the time to acknowledge an empty post?" Every photo has a backstory, and when I see a picture in isolation, I want to know more…   ✅  What prompted my father to grab his camera at that moment (when it wasn't nearly as easy or convenient as it is now)? ✅ What's with that coquettish smile? Clearly, I knew how to curdle some hearts even back then.   ✅  What parent optimistically assumes a 2-year-old would use a napkin? Where there's a will, there's a whey… ✅  Why wasn't Borden's contacted about an ad campaign? This face could have launched a thousand tubs of cottage cheese. Please, let's make our posts meaningful. Serve a whole bowl of cottage cheese, not just a few curds. Go beyond eye-catching and add some rich and creamy substance. 👉👉👉 Show me a photo and TELL ME A DELICIOUS STORY!

That’s how much cereal we buy. And if you want to really understand commerce & culture, take a walk with me down the cereal aisle. Here’s how they do it. → Rewind to the 1860's. William Keith Kellogg invents a light, flakey cereal that's ready to eat out of the box. He calls it Corn Flakes. → Hundreds of competitors come along. It's a breakfast bonanza. Washburn-Crosby has Wheaties. Post has Bran Flakes. Quaker Oats has Life. → Next come colors, shapes, and flavours. Trix, Alpha-bits, Frosted Flakes, Cap'n Crunch, Rice Krispies, and so many more. Then comes the marketing muscle. Cereal is the most basic product wrapped in the loudest branding. It's cardboard content on full blast. • Mascots Tony the Tiger and Count Chocula make direct eye contact with you as you stroll down the aisle. That's on purpose. • Prizes Trading cards, puzzles, coupons, toys. The breakfast barons have been doing this for 120 years. Everyone else followed. • Pop culture Hot Wheels, Star Wars, Batman, Nintendo. All of these cultural touch points have appeared on a cereal box near you. ________ So the next time you grab your favourite flakes or grains or puffed whatever, remember this — they put a ton of work into every inch of that box. #marketing #brand #growth
