These chicken bags are going to cost Costco Wholesale so much money. Why do you grab a cart when you come just to buy chicken? Because the bottom of the old packaging is hot and it’s awkward to carry one, let alone two and tends to require both hands. What do you do with a cart? You add more stuff into the cart. With the bag, you have no reason to grab a cart. You can literally just walk in, grab two bags with one hand and walk straight back to the register because they’re so easy to carry. Not a smart design for a product that is a loss leader intended to get a shopper to buy more in the store. Will Costco’s average cart value drop immensely? You’re sure of it! Could this change make Costco miss target earnings? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t want to wait and find out… #speculation

I want to discover a way to sell like Costco Wholesale. 😕 We always buy more than we had on our list. 😕 We never price check to see if we are “getting a good deal” 😕 Our excuse for buying in bulk to not need it for awhile seems to contradict the fact we go EVERY WEEK⁉️ Now the one gripe I do have is that our Costco doesn’t have scanners to build your total. I have to empty all the products to be scanned and then still have my receipt checked. The power of Costco Wholesale: When Costco decides to get serious about a product, competitors are forced to react. Like lots of products, the cost of plastic storage bins has skyrocketed. Something that cost $7-9 just a few years ago, might be $12-17, depending what store you are at. Then about a month ago, every Costco was loaded with pallets of yellow and black bins, at $8.99 each with a $1 off coupon per. $7.99 each! I bought 10 that day, and really didn't even need them. I just couldn't help myself. So then over the next weeks, cruising stores as a hobby to see trends like my buddy John Andrews, I noticed everyone lowering prices: The Home Depot on sale for $9.99, Walmart price buster deal was $12, and so on. It used to piss me off when someone with a similar product or service used to copy a campaign, service offering, marketing message, whatever. Now however, I take it as a compliment and a form of flattery. They are trying to keep up with us. Why? We are the best at what we do. 🛒 Costco Wholesale is increasing membership prices 💰 for the first time in 7 years . +$10/year for executive and $5 for standard, at 52M members across both at roughly 50/50 split is $7.5*52M = $390M of incremental revenue. Assuming the price increase doesn't cause increased churn...which it probably won't to any meaningful extent as the price increase is relatively small to any individual/family (especially so given Costco's typical higher HHI customer), there's no real good substitute, and it's shockingly sticky. This is the rough equivalent of: 🌭 🥤 Raising hot dog & drink combo prices from $1.50 by $2.00 to $3.50. 200M hot dogs/year *$2 = $400M. 🐔 Raising rotisserie chicken price from $4.99 by $3 to $8.99. 137M chickens/year * $3 = $411M. ^^Doing any of the two above would cause catastrophic insurrections of Costco fans but no one is really going to bat an eye at the $5-10 membership price increase. This will add about $370 million dollars in revenue by this time next year. Costco's market cap was about $392 billion at the close, today. Even if you take the $370 million of additional revenue from this increase and multiply it by 10 ‼, that is only $3.7 billion 👀 over the next 10 years... less than 1% of the market cap at close today.
