These include : ◽Submit its results to an external verification every two years using an verifier accredited by Green Marine Europe. ◽The first verification is required within two years of joining the program. ◽Certification is valid for two years from the date of verification. ◽The verification process includes on-site visits and verification of the company’s documented proof and justification in support of its self-evaluation. 🌊It was my pleasure to support an All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting for the Celtic Sea in Westminster today on behalf of the UK’s underwater industry. Thank you Selaine Saxby for the invitation. 🌊 🌊As with many similar meetings I’ve attended over the last two decades, there is no shortage of willingness and commitment from industry, stakeholders and local (Southwest) coastal communities to see the rewards of the OSW/FLOW agenda manifested in real economic benefit. The size of the prize has changed significantly but the ask of government, lack of investor confidence amidst policy inconsistencies and reluctance to pick winners has not. The UK’s subsea supply chain is world leading and will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering energy security, jobs and investment. However, inconsistency and lack of sequential decisions - at the right time - will hinder our ability to increase capacity and provide additional investment into regions like the Southwest where capability and experience is required. The UK underwater supply chain has choices and it would be an unfathomable lost opportunity were we to lose investment to alternative markets. There is such clear interdependency between ports, manufacturing, innovation, surface, and subsurface operations across offshore energy/subsea installation. (This also extends to the protection of critical underwater infrastructure against the backdrop of geopolitical instability which also needs increasing focus). High time for government to be bold and finally help industrialise/protect and grow what is so clearly in the national interest on so many fronts. 🌊 #FLOW #underwaterindustry #worldleading #globalunderwaterhub

The generation of large storm surges from the effects of wind and pressure on coastal waters is well-documented, yet recent events like Hurricane Ida in the northeast United States and Hurricane Harvey in Texas have underscored the critical threat posed by extreme rainfall. Such events lead to intense urban flooding and overwhelm sewer systems, contributing to extensive overland flooding. While conventional flood risk analysis often includes storm surge factors, the integration of rainfall-runoff processes to evaluate comprehensive flood risk, accounting for both storm surge and rainfall-runoff, is a burgeoning research area. This presentation aims to elucidate the mechanisms of coastal flooding specific to the New York City area, employing advanced modeling techniques. We will detail our methodology for simultaneously accounting for storm surge and rainfall-runoff effects within a unified model. Highlighting a high-resolution micro-scale model of Queens, New York City, capable of resolving individual buildings while capturing broad regional tidal and storm surge dynamics of the mid-Atlantic bight, we will discuss hindcast results of the flooding during the hypothetical event.
