Awards... what are they good for.... In my part of the world, the local newspaper runs an annual business award ceremony, split into a number of categories... In 2021, the winner of the Large Business of the Year pushed for growth, backed by heavy investment.... In 2023, based on its 2022 accounts, it was recognised by one of the leading law firms (in partnership with the regional newspaper) .....as one of the areas fastest growing firms, seeing a whopping 119.99% growth in turnover.... ...a "shining light" in the industry.... This month it went into administration... ....with the likely fallout to be felt by the local and wider economy.... .....this is often the tale of many firms.... A glossy facade of success and glamour often hides the real challenges.... The difficult decisions, the ones hardest to face and troublesome to deal with.... The ones often swept under the carpet, placed in the difficult box never to be addressed.... An award can be perceived as recognition of success, justification of the strive to challenge industry norms, promotion as "the place" you should work, "the one" you should do business with..... An interesting analysis of Board dynamics around member turnover. The findings indicate turnover does have a negative impact. Intuitively, stable Boards would seem to be an advantage to firms.
