Water, the source of life, sustains #ecosystems, nourishes crops, and quenches our thirst. Yet, despite covering over 70% of the Earth's surface, access to clean and reliable water remains a pressing challenge for millions worldwide. Water scarcity, driven by factors such as population growth, climate change, and unsustainable water management practices, threatens to exacerbate inequalities, undermine development, and jeopardize ecosystems. In this blog, we'll delve into the complexities of water scarcity, explore its implications, and discuss potential solutions to address this critical issue. #ClimateChange #CleanWater #Sustainability #SaveWater Dominic White Daniela Dagnino https://lnkd.in/eupMzx62

This is such an innovative project! Solar power is so interesting. I love it when solar becomes part of a solution to address a critical need, in addition to acting as a power source.
🌊🌏 World Water Day 2024🌏🌊 One in four people on Earth don’t have access to safe drinking water. As part of Microsoft’s work to become water positive by 2030, we’re on a journey to address that. In 2020, we announced our roadmap to become water positive, since then, we have provided over 1.5M people with clean water and sanitation services. There is more work to do as we recognize that our progress is only a drop in the bucket. That’s why, on this #WorldWaterDay, we’re excited to share that we’re teaming up with a Climate Innovation Fund portfolio company @SOURCE Global to provide clean water to families in Navajo Nation. SOURCE’s hydropanel technology taps into the endless supply of solar energy and moisture in the air, providing access to clean drinking water using only renewable energy resources. Environmental Scientist - Public education advocate whose posts support science-based sustainable healthy/biodiverse ecosystems, climate action, adaptation/resilience and cleantech
May 23, 2024 - By Utrecht University,“ Water scarcity will intensify with climate and socioeconomic change, disproportionately impacting populations located in the Global South. So concludes a new Utrecht University article has (https://lnkd.in/egXKZ5kr) published in Nature Climate Change on 23 May 2024, which used a state-of-the-art global water quantity and quality model to estimate #cleanwater scarcity until the end of the century. Humans require clean water for drinking and sanitation purposes, but also for the production of food, energy and manufactured goods. As communities and policymakers grapple with #waterscarcity issues on the ground, researchers at Utrecht University aim to shed light on the escalating global clean #watercrisis. By the end of the century, the lack of clean water may be as high as 66%. Dr. Edward Jones Current and future water scarcity Using simulations from a state-of-the-art water quantity and quality model, the authors assess present-day and future global water scarcity. “#Climatechange and socioeconomic developments have multi-faceted impacts on the availability and quality of, and demands for, #waterresources in the future,” says lead author Dr. Edward Jones. “Changes in these three aspects are crucial for evaluating future water scarcity.” The study estimates that 55% of the global population currently lives in areas that experience a lack of clean water in at least one month per year. “By the end of the century, this may be as high as 66%,” remarks Jones. Strong regional differences in future water scarcity While global water scarcity is projected to intensify in the future, both the changes and impacts will not occur equally across all world regions. Future increases in water scarcity in #WesternEurope and #NorthAmerica, for example, are concentrated in just a few months of the year -- predominantly driven by #waterquantity aspects. Conversely, water scarcity increases in #developingcountries are typically more widespread in space and persist for a larger portion of the year. Jones remarks, "Increases in future exposure are largest in the #GlobalSouth. These are typically driven by a combination of rapid population and economic growth, climate change and deteriorating water quality." Quality: the invisible part of water scarcity #Waterquality -- despite being crucial for safe water use -- remains an under-represented component of water scarcity assessments. "Previous assessments still predominantly focus on water quantity aspects only," explains Jones. "Yet, the safe use of water also depends on the quality." Therefore, a key aim of this study was also to normalise the inclusion of water quality in water scarcity assessments -- and in the design of management strategies for alleviating water scarcity. Jones concludes, "The lack of clean water presents a systemic risk to both humans and ecosystems, which is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.. “ Continue reading: #watermansgement

Dutch Waters in Danger Is your local waterway at risk? Our new report reveals a shocking truth: over 60% of Dutch waters have deteriorated since 2015! What's causing it? From climate change to reduced water flow, the factors are concerning. This decline threatens aquatic life and entire ecosystems. But there's hope! We need collective action from water boards, industries, and local authorities to reverse this trend. Together, we can meet European water quality standards by 2027. As we strive to embrace more nature based solutions (at which we must go further and faster) we must also avoid binary choices and purist approaches. Taxonomy is important to understanding the mix of choices that gives us the best outcomes for different challenges irrespective of their categorisation - acceptance of hybrid approaches is the key to unlocking a more sustainable future. I have heard some suggest that the use of some aeration to assist nature might change the categorisation of the solution from NBS because of greater carbon consumption. (In the case of Aero-Fac® negligible particularly compared to more conventional processes), but that aeration might firstly make the utilisation of NBS more suitable by cutting down on some of the land area required but it might also reduce more harmful methane emissions. There is a wealth of opportunity to exploit through helping nature to do its thing and in a number of cases the evidence is already plain to see so little excuse for resisting adoption! Aero-Fac® should be at the top of everyone’s options list…

#water | "Climate change is causing a range of serious issues across the world, but a main one is a lack of water." Water continues to be the most important topic for our future: 👉 Water scarcity 👉 Water quality 👉 Water pollution 👉 Irrigation water 👉 Drinking water 👉 Water, water, water We can't delay any longer. It's time to focus on WATER. I'd love to hear your ideas on how we can use water more efficiently, how we can conserve water and how we can ensure future (and current) generations have safe drinking water in all areas of the world. #climateaction #waterindustry

Water is a precious resource and it’s running out. Water conservation is at the top of environmental concerns, along with conserving energy and reducing CO2 emissions. Once again, GHPs can play a role in our mission to help our planet. When GHPs are used for commercial buildings, they eliminate the need for cooling towers, which use millions of gallons of water every single year. The amount of water that could be saved simply by normalizing the use of GHPs in commercial facilities is truly mind-boggling and earth-changing for the better!
