Well done Sam Whalley and team! I’m a big fan of increasing insurer capacity through innovation like this which is on offer from multiple insurers. I have already seen these approaches develop to cover more benefit complexity and expect the approach to be more widely adopted in the market. I often get asked whether this means you need to go exclusive or do you get a “small scheme” pricing adjustment by doing this - the honest answer is it depends! Both on your objectives, insurer appetite and overall supply and demand dynamics the approach to market can be very different month to month which means staying close to the market and being nimble is key.

Aviva and Beazley remain the UK-listed buys in a bullish update on the European insurance sector from analysts at Berenberg. The broker has 26 buy recommendations across its coverage, based on what it sees as an ongoing conducive environment for insurers from less volatility in interest rates and inflation, though natural catastrophe costs are likely to remain high.  “This is a favourable environment for insurers because low volatility leads to reduced solvency capital required,  higher solvency ratios,  more excess capital, and more cash to spend on buybacks and M&A,” says the broker. Stocks with reliable annual buybacks such as Aviva are certain to do well, suggests the broker, but lower perceived asset risk and rising asset valuations are likely to be positive for stocks with large asset leverage to real estate and private equity and also to corporate bonds. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠&𝗔: 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 Identifying potential M&A targets can be a crucial performance driver for investors in insurance equity, especially with the recent surge in takeovers and business combinations within the sector. Recently, insurance stocks have reacted significantly to both official M&A interest and simple rumors. Direct Line stock jumped 25% in the week of February 26th after Belgian insurer Ageas confirmed a possible offer, then withdrawn, for the UK motor specialist. Similarly, Hiscox stock increased 13% in the week of July 8th when the specialist newspaper Insurance Insider highlighted potential interest from Sompo and Generali in the specialty insurer. While large private equity-backed transactions were less frequent, it's noteworthy that Sixth Street agreed to take Enstar private in a USD 5.1 billion deal, at a premium of 8.5% over the 90-day volume-weighted average price. Recurrent M&A drivers include the need to cement market positioning or enter strategic growth segments. For example, Aviva returned to Lloyd’s with the Probitas acquisition, complementing its growing specialty business. European insurers are also eyeing the under-penetrated Asian market, with Allianz acquiring control over Income Insurer for USD 2.2 billion, and Ageas deepening its partnership with China Taiping by subscribing to a capital increase of Taiping Pension. Lastly, AXA announced the sale of its investment management arm to BNP and a small acquisition in Italy, sharpening its focus on core insurance activities. #equity #insurance
