In this week's Product-led GTM we discuss a shortcut to answering the question, "Is PLG for Me?" I suggest 3 simple questions: 1️⃣ Which parts (if any) of our GTM process are already automated? 2️⃣ Do any of our competitors automate any part of the GTM process that we do not? 3️⃣ What GTM process automation would be a game changer in our industry? It's a different way of thinking about the question that in my opinion packs a punch. It avoids "either-or" thinking and goes straight to the "when and how." When you're building a product in an existing market, should you rush to add new features and differentiators, or focus on selling what you've already created? Here's why sticking to your current offerings could be the way to go: - Catch up with the market: Understand what's already out there and how you fit in. It's crucial to match up to existing expectations before trying to exceed them. - Sell what you have: If there's a demand for what you're offering now, why look elsewhere? There are customers out there who need exactly what you've got. - Visibility Before Innovation: Building innovative features without a solid marketing, sales, or product-led strategy might not yield the desired outcome. If your groundbreaking feature goes unnoticed due to lack of visibility, the effort and resources invested could be wasted. Establish a strong funnel and market presence first; innovation can follow once you have an audience's attention. In a nutshell, while innovation is crucial for long-term success and differentiation, ensuring your product meets current market needs and is visible to your target audience is equally important.

Here's a life update and the story to this all! A little bit over a year ago vitafive was successfully acquired by a $2B company of which we (purposely) put 0 PR out. The story of vitafive was we scaled our DTC to multiple 7 figures/year. Then we scaled our Amazon very successfully in house. (At this time I decided to outsource our Amazon to 6 different agencies) Then we launched retail and scaled from 0-7000 doors within 2 years. Then after using 6 different agencies (and seeing a 15% decrease in sales, I took it back in house and scaled our Amazon 4.5x in 3 short months). So what's next... After seeing massive success on Amazon, I helped a number of friends scale their Amazon accounts and decided to help high growth brands scale massively. Innovation. Or a lack thereof. Most companies get this wrong. I can't even tell you how many companies I've seen put the onus to sell their offerings merely on the sales staff. They throw their hands up in the air and say, I've created something --- it's the salesperson's job to sell it. This mentality is so toxic. I believe that it's important for sales people to have a real, tangible mission to keep them focused and motivated. And it's the job of the employer to create one. The correct dynamic is this: the company sets up the play - and then the sales team takes the alley-oop. If your offering does not in some way, hold value over your competitors - then it's not a sales effort that should be your first priority. Sales people are the proponents, the emissaries, the advocates of a NEW solution for a specific problem. It's the organization that is responsible for the actual value of a product or service and how it stands up to its competitors. It's the salespeople that create the perspective to sell and the proposition for that specific value-add. Labelling and branding a product that is already on the market is not innovation. Adding another offering that others also offer is not innovation. Innovation is seeing what everyone else sees, but responding to that stimulus, differently. Creating a NEW solution. People buy NEW innovative solutions. If your company is having trouble selling it's products and services, then it's important to review your organization's level of innovation. If your organization's innovator has not created anything NEW lately, then that should be your first clue to your lack of growth. Looking to a superstar salesperson to suddenly come up with a solution to sell a meek offering is like pulling up to a small pond with a fishing rod, hoping to catch a big fish.
