I spent the first 5 years of my career as a Business Resilience and Disaster Recovery consultant. Reflecting on the recent #crowdstrike #microsoft global IT failure, when faced with a failure of that magnitude, it challenges the core of BCDR plans. I don't know what else I would have put in the plan to resolve the issue other than rapid deployment of rebuilt machines and remote access through alternative devices (hoping that IT support team were onsite in July to do this on mass scale). Diversifying software away from the handful of leading providers would not completely mitigate the risk - it could happen to any of them . Given the potential vulnerability, the question arises: Is it more effective to be one of many affected, accepting the risk or to reassess and strengthen resiliency plans at higher cost and complexity? Any BC professionals in my network have any tips for how they could prevent or limit the impact of an incident like we witnessed on Friday? #businessresilience #disasterrecovery

This Crowdstrike/Microsoft outage is a great litmus test. For affected systems, the resolution is technical but not difficult, which means that organizations that can't recover quickly have one of several issues: - Lack of a TESTED disaster recovery (DR) plan - Poor understanding of how their data and systems interoperate - Too few resources dedicated to monitoring & recovery In my opinion, the longer an organization is down from this, it's an indicator of deficiencies in their IT infrastructure management.
