Problem Solver. Speaker. Navigator. I help organizations transform, teams thrive, and individuals unlock their magic.
I faced a pivotal moment in high school that reshaped my understanding of success and failure. As a freshman, I earned a spot on the Varsity team—a rare achievement that filled me with pride. Yet, after two seasons at the top, I didn't make the cut and was placed on the Junior Varsity team. I considered quitting altogether. How could I possibly be on JV after two seasons on Varsity? But I persevered. 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵. I sought feedback, dove into rigorous training, and even got an opportunity to lead as the JV captain. This resilience paid off when I made it back to Varsity the following season, bringing with me invaluable lessons: 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆: Being at the top once doesn't guarantee a permanent spot. Stay vigilant and keep striving. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸: Failure is merely a redirection, not a stop sign. Learn, improve, and grow. These insights guide me daily—whether in life, family, or work—and underline the importance of maintaining a growth mindset. Have you ever turned a setback into a comeback? Share your stories below. Exciting News to Share! Today, I was humbled to receive the Gary Smith Scholarship from the NASDDDS, which grants me the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Consortium Summer Leadership Institute. This award is a tribute to Gary Smith's legacy, a leader deeply committed to enhancing state services for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. I must admit, celebrating personal achievements often feels a bit awkward for me. I resonate deeply with Kobe Bryant's ethos, particularly when he said after a victory in the finals: "Job's not finished. Job finished? I don't think so." This mindset has shaped much of my career approach, reluctant to pause and acknowledge milestones when there's so much more to accomplish. However, today, I'm reminded of the importance of recognizing these moments on our journey, not just the final goals. This scholarship is not just a personal achievement but a moment to reflect on the progress we’re making towards empowering people with IDD to live on their own terms. It’s a reminder that every step forward is part of shaping a more inclusive, supportive world. A special thank you to Mary O’Brien Sowers, Jeanine Zlockie, and the entire NASDDDS Board of Directors for this incredible honor. I’m excited to learn and grow through this opportunity, bringing back knowledge and strategies that will help us continue to drive meaningful change. Here's to celebrating milestones, no matter how awkward it might feel! #Leadership #Inclusion #ProfessionalGrowth #ContinuousImprovement
