PACTcon starts tomorrow in Montreal. Meanwhile the open letter led by Labour in the Arts has gained over 400 signatures from arts workers across Turtle Island. Visit LIA Instagram below to read the non-response from Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT). There is a giant gulf between priorities of the artists and workers in our sector versus its leaders. While PACT may not want to do any of the things requested, their response is wholly tepid and uncreative, doing nothing to lessen the divide. Why not, at a minimum, invite LIA for a facilitated conversation? Instead the conference will carry on, business as usual, while the world does not. If you are attending this year's conference, I am imploring you to keep this letter in the front of your mind whether you agree with it or not. Attend the one session that hints at this letter, being about "divisive issues," and speak up. We valorize our art form as being subversive and yet the majority of it couldn't be less so. Ignoring the voices of workers will only lead to more alienation and flight from the industry leaving only the privileged to keep making meaningless entertainment. https://lnkd.in/giQteY5V
OPEN LETTER TO Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT), read and sign here: https://lnkd.in/dBnQwBRJ Our sector is a very precarious place to speak up and yet we are. Are organizations are very eager to speak about decolonization and reconciliation and yet they remain silent. No more status quo in Canadian Theatre. We demand our leaders be the leaders they need to be.

100 Seats for Misfits: Do you have your ticket? I loved how Myah described her Company: 'It's a training ground for the misfit.' A misfit is someone who does not fit easily within a particular group or environment—I’ve been a misfit all my life. What about you? A misfit is someone whose behavior or attitudes differ from the norms of the group they are in, making them stand out or sometimes feel out of place. I bet you have felt out of place at one point or another too. I don’t call myself the 'accidental banker' because I fit perfectly in this world—I am a misfit. Isn’t it great when you find a group, an organization, or a friend where being yourself is celebrated? That’s exactly what they are doing with this program. I call this kind of program a training ground for the underdog. I refer to this type of effort as 'the but for.' But for an initiative like this, people who are looking to find their way wouldn’t get the exposure that could be the tipping point directing them toward their purpose! I, for one, am all for giving people platforms and positioning them to reach the next level. I want to celebrate these ‘misfits’—will you join me? The auditorium holds 100 people—let’s pack it! The arts are crucial for sparking creativity and passion, and I hope to see you there. Let me know if you will join me—I will be attending. Myah, thank you for your leadership. Good read
"Sade Lythcott, the chief executive of National Black Theater, said she saw the moment as “less of a crisis than an opportunity to look at our value set. Audiences formed new patterns, they are not coming back in the way that they used to, and, this may be controversial, but there’s also a lot of natural attrition,” she said. “Where you see a lot of the pain is in larger organizations that feel too big to fail. They’re cutting staff, and it is devastating and indicative of a shift in audience behavior, but there’s also a right-sizing that’s happening, because of what was perhaps an unsustainable relationship with boards and philanthropies.” https://lnkd.in/g6RsGJCV

Eimear Noone I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for this incredible interview. Everyone should listen to this - especially any women/men interested in bringing equity, equality and changing work-culture for us to thrive. To the two Marys and Enda Grace wowser! This is the most beautiful podcast - and I sense it will have a huge following - it is so beautiful, the way you both create and hold the space for real conversations on things that really matter. Enda Grace truly wonderful! Eimear Noone I have admired you from afar for years online. Probably, safe to say, a girl crush! Your presence has always caught me. But now I know why:- You are an incredible bright light, I think you are a real life trailblazer - the essence of our great lands ancestral change-makers and mystics is not dead but so alive in you. You carry the essence and join the incredible great women that have shone brightly on the world stage, Grace O'Malley, Nano Nagle, Caroline Casey, Mary McAleese, Mary Robinson come to mind. Thank you for showing us what is possible when you stand in your truth, be full of integrity, have the courage to walk the path, the ripple you can have on the world stage and the legacy when one does. But, I want to thank you all personally, this interview has brought up lots for me. Funny, just like you, Mary, I was told the same when I joined law. I went on to qualify too and experienced first hand the inequity and unfairness of the legal system as a woman. Just like you Eimear Noone I miscarried. Mine inflicted by working too hard and not minding myself. Unfortunately, I too needed to file a Gender Equality case, post my miscarriage. A very challenging experience, considering I was a a founding equity owner and director. As part of the process, I filed multiple proceedings in the high court and commercial court. My case settled and the Non-Disclosure Agreement signed just weeks before the birth of my second child. The settlement monies I received were lodged while I lay in hospital after delivering, with my beautiful little boy. For some weeks now, I have been with and reflecting on the role of Non-Disclosure Agreements and the silencing that happens with that? I also have been reflecting on what we voice things safely, as a means for change and do that in a collective, safe way. One of the things and main drivers and essence of the The Dialogue Code This is very alive with me, with the recent death (suspected suicide)of the lawyer Valerie - who was doing 18 hour days and had 2 small children. It has prompted me to consider a series of dialogues for women in law, across our island, UK and perhaps in LA and to reflect on how we can bring equity and justice back into law to be truly lived, so that we can create equitable places of work for women, men, children to thrive? Much to be done, but how lucky are we - to be here when change is coming. I worked in the US in human rights law. Eimear what strength to navigate
MD at Dundara Television & Media Producer . Director . Editor Producer of television & Changing Times podcast with Mary McAleese & Mary Kennedy. In house ARRI Alexa, Red Raven, Sony FX9 & 2 x FS7’s.
This is an extraordinary listen. We all know Eimear Noone as the first woman to lead the orchestra at the Oscars in 2020. The rest of the Galway woman’s story is equally incredible. Now living in Los Angeles we were delighted to welcome Eimear to our Allenwood studio for this emotionally charged and uplifting conversation with former president of Ireland Mary McAleese and one of our country’s best loved broadcasters Mary Kennedy. For this year's celebration, it will be a little more comfortable... 🤩 One hundred years after the first season, the Welttheater Einsiedeln will be staged as an open-air theater for the 17th time in 2024. For the 100th anniversary, there will be covered grandstands for the audience for the first time. These are currently being erected by our crew members in front of the baroque monastery church ⛪ 🛠️. They are nimble. Every move is perfect, and the grandstands are growing day by day, as you can see in the following video 😊 #eventstructures #eventbau #temporarysolutions #eventsolution #buildingbigmoments #buildingmemories #sustainability #connectingyou
