Notice and approval requirements from state authorities are a frequent source of anxiety for nonprofits during proposed reorganizations or other trigger events. The New York Department of Health and the ongoing discussions surrounding the closure of Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital are a good example why. Last week, the state determined the hospital violated cease and desist orders and this week found its closure plan to be incomplete. As evidenced by this ongoing saga, these processes can be unpredictable and cause unanticipated delays. With consolidation and closures of hospitals at the forefront of state governments' attentions, it is even more important than ever to overly document and communicate, plan for the worst, and at times, just hope for the best. #Polsinelli #healthcare #nonprofits #501c3

Monday night, I attended our City Board meeting and learned that our city received part of a grant for an outdoor fitness center. I am so excited about this project! I would like to volunteer to help raise funds for this important project. Now, I'm seeking capital funding for our Dublin, Texas city's outdoor fitness center. Here are key avenues we need to explore: - Public grants and low-interest loans from agencies like USDA Rural Development. - Private sources such as local donors, foundations, and philanthropic organizations. Not-for-profit, charitable hospitals must conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and implementation plan once every three years. Through this process, CHC helps hospitals better understand and meet the needs of the communities they serve.

"The Paradox of Generosity: Why Do Those with Less Often Give More?" Have you ever wondered why the forests seem most generous when it's their time to give and share? A recent report by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) unveils a profound paradox: Why are those in the most challenging circumstances often the ones leading in generosity? In 2023, the British public generously contributed a record-breaking £13.9 billion to charitable causes, as reported by The Guardian. In Belfast West, a community where over a quarter of children live in poverty, residents donated an average of 2.2% of their household income to good causes. Contrast this with the affluent area of Kensington and Bayswater, where despite high donations, contributions amounted to just 0.5% of household income – marking the lowest rate across all constituencies. It was a great honour to have been interviewed by the President & CEO of The World Affairs Council of America (WACA) on the profound benefits of giving, both physically and neurologically. Studies suggest that the act of giving can enhance physical health, boost mental well-being, and foster a sense of community and connection. It appears that those who have faced hardship understand the true value of support and are more willing to extend it to others. Only 2% of overseas development aid for health is allocated to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Through creative financing and co-funding from the private sector, we have an opportunity for change. At the 78th United Nations General Assembly, I had the privilege of co-hosting an event alongside UNICEF USA and Eli Lilly and Company. Our goal was clear — ensure the inclusion of every child with an NCD in global programs and policies. Joined by Dr. Luwei Pearson of UNICEF, Dr. Ana Mocumbi from NCDI Poverty Network, John Steele from Eli Lilly and Company, and Dr. Mikhail Varshavski, we delved into the intersections of various NCDs, encompassing clinical care models, supply chains, and health financing. Throughout our conversation, the resounding theme that emerged was that cross-sector collaboration is crucial to building accessible health systems. Tomorrow, our CEO, Mustafa Qadri will speak at the 2024 Asia Regional Freedom from Slavery Forum around the theme “Empower, Expose, Eradicate: Uniting Against Modern Slavery and Exploitation in Asia,” addressing the complex issue of modern slavery, including human trafficking, forced labor, and other forms of exploitation.  The forum is focused on three pillars: Empower, Expose, and Eradicate. The Empower pillar emphasizes equipping individuals and communities with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to resist and overcome exploitation. The Expose pillar involves shedding light on modern slavery by conducting thorough research, utilizing media to highlight personal stories, advocating for transparency in supply chains, and pressuring governments for accountability. The Eradicate pillar aims to eliminate all forms of modern slavery through strengthening legislation, promoting international collaboration, engaging local communities, and focusing on long-term rehabilitation for survivors.  Mustafa will be providing an analysis of current trends and data related to modern slavery in Asia, discussing recent findings, patterns, and implications for policy and intervention. By participating in multi-stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, resource mobilization, and the establishment of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, we aim to address immediate challenges and build a foundation for sustained and systemic change in the fight against modern slavery and exploitation in Asia. Compassion is a natural human response to pain that inspires us to help others. Interestingly, our ability to experience and act on compassion diminishes as the number of people in need goes up. This is known as compassion fade, and it is the adversary to public health intervention. Some of the largest, most devastating disasters receive very little aid because as humans, we have a difficult time grasping the magnitude of suffering when it spans across entire populations. We become blinded by large numbers and statistics, and ultimately lose sight of the individual experience. So how do we overcome this paradox in compassion? Successful public health initiatives can combat the effects of compassion fade by showcasing individual victims and highlighting personal stories to evoke a compassionate response and generate much needed public support. The community is an essential stakeholder in any public health project, and engaging community members must always be a top priority in our mission. Thank you, Dr Eva M. 🌟On October 5, 2023, the executive director of the Israeli Medical Mission in Ukraine, Andrii Kozlenko, together with the Belohorod village head, Anton Ovsienko, discussed the progress of the implementation of the charity project "A healthy person is a happy country". 🤝🏻 The implementation of the project takes place with the cooperation of the Israeli Mission in Ukraine, the Jewish religious community of Kyiv, the Anatevka Help Center, the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital 11 and Ziphycare. 💬 The main topic of discussion was further measures to increase the level of community residents' access to medical services, including the use of telemedicine. #IsraeliMedicalMission #telemedicine #Ukraine
