A little late but in April, I presented our annual report to the Hazelwood City Council. It was a mixture of both new and existing projects detailing investment and impact to the region. A few points stood out: (1) Hazelwood saw over $272 Million of new investment (2) The projects presented resulted in over $15,000,000 in annual salaries (3) Because of the city's investment in economic development projects, Hazelwood has over 20 Million SF of industrial space over the past decade (4) We estimate the ripple effect of companies that located in Hazelwood without any incentives, coupled with the projects presented, resulted in over $1 Billion of new investment (5) Our industrial landscape encompasses a wide array of industry sectors like food processing, automotive, aerospace, logistics, plastics, recycled products and much more. This success is only achieved through valued partnerships with industry leaders like Steadfast City Economic & Community Partners, NorthPoint Development, Industrial Commercial Properties (ICP), Missouri Department of Economic Development, Panattoni Development Company and many more. Did you know that US 1 which runs right through #DowntownDelray ends in Fort Kent, Maine? The story of US 1 begins in 1925 with creation of the US numbered highway system. Main east-west roads were given even numbers and the major north-south highways were assigned odd numbers. That's how the Atlantic Coast Highway running from Fort Kent, Maine to Miami, Florida became US 1. In 1939, Florida extended US 1 to Key West, stretching 2,446 miles. In the mid-1970s, the state DOT widened US 1 to three lanes. But that caused cars to come speeding through Downtown Delray Beach. Our city's walkability was being greatly impacted. In the early 2000s, city leaders along with the DDA and CRA lobbied to return the road back to 2 lanes in each direction through Downtown Delray. US 1 went through an extensive $14 million construction project to reduce the lanes, add sidewalk space, bike lanes and make it more pedestrian-friendly through our town. Delray is one of the most walkable downtowns in all of South Florida, with our main street going all the way to the beach and the changes to US 1 are another reason we are the #VillageByTheSea! #LoveDelray

Local Economic Development- I am pro-business and supportive of local economic development. I support the streamlining of commercial building development and business permits to cut down on the time it takes to open a business in Gilroy. If a business meets all the objective standards established by the Gilroy City Council, then the application shall be deemed complete in 30 days, which enhances our local control. After completion of the building checklist, the business should be allowed to open, and not prevented from opening their doors based on subjective findings. I voted to fund many of our specific plans, including the Downtown Specific Plan. When plans are updated every 5 years, they stimulate the local economy by keeping up with current demands. When we provide a quality education for all, high quality of life, and develop beautification projects, it will attract businesses and jobs to Gilroy. When we remove barriers to opening businesses quickly, then local jobs of all incomes will be more readily available. Everyone should have access to jobs that pay a living wage, and the ability to expand their skills.
