Beyond Taboos: Rethinking Education for a Changing World. The 20th Annual York University Graduate Student Conference in Education will be taking place from May 6-8, 2024. This milestone year marks a bold exploration of uncharted territories within the field of education under the theme Beyond Taboos: Rethinking Education for a Changing World. I'm excited to present a paper in which I encapsulate my journey from being an artist to artist-educator, influenced by J Krishamurthy and Paulo Freire's educational philosophies in a borderless, fearless, inclusive teaching-learning environment.

So many higher education institutions that I collaborate with and support are either: 💡 in the beginning stages of assessing their academic advising practices OR 🤯 already in the midst of full blown academic advising redesign efforts in order to improve student success outcomes This work, while often complicated, is critical. Jane Marie Souza and Tara Rose, Ph.D. recently published their second volume of "Exemplars of Assessment in Higher Education: Strategies for a Changing Higher Education Environment" and I am honored to have co-authored chapter 17: "Remodeling Academic Advising into a Holistic Case Management Model and Assessing the Effectiveness of the Model and the Impact on Student Success" ❓ Are you involved in or leading this work at your institution? ❓ Are you navigating the complexities of seeing this work through? While chapter 17 in "Exemplars of Assessment in Higher Education" highlights one approach to strategically aligning resources to student support efforts, I would love to hear about other approaches you have taken at your institution. ✋🏼

🎊 ✨ 🎉 Excited to Share My Admission to the 🦁 Columbia Honor Society! A year ago today, within the iconic Low Library Rotunda at Columbia University, I was formally admitted to the Columbia Honor Society. This achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a reflection of the outstanding support and education that I've received during my time here. 📕 Reflecting on my experiences, I'd like to offer some advice on making the most of college life, in hopes that these tips will be as beneficial to you as they were to me 😎 1. **Create a Study Group**: Instead of isolating yourself to study alone, consider setting up a study group. The interaction with peers can transform learning into a more enjoyable and efficient process. Think of it as teaming up with friends to tackle a project—sounds much easier, right? 2. **Start Assignments Early**: Assignments often take longer than anticipated, so it's wise to begin sooner rather than later. Imagine the last-minute rush and the long queues for assistance just before a deadline; that’s a situation you'll want to avoid. 3. **Seek Help from Professors and TAs**: If you find yourself facing academic or emotional challenges, don’t hesitate to ask for help from your professors and teaching assistants. They are ready and willing to provide support. 4. **Attend office hours as much as possible**: Attending office hours is not only a fantastic chance to review content but also a great opportunity to gain new perspectives by hearing the questions and ideas of others. This can also help ensure you have a solid understanding of the subject matter. 5. **Arrive Early to Class**: By arriving ten minutes early to each class and reviewing the previous session's material, you're effectively giving yourself a mini-review of the entire course. When midterms or finals approach, you’ll be better prepared than most.

"Rigorous" is one of the most overused terms in higher ed. EVERYONE wants to be known for this. And my question is why? Yes, we want to be known for the quality of our academics. I get it. But we have got to stop positioning this term as inherently positive all the time. Because it deters students. Think about this: one of the biggest fears of perspective students is "will I be able to handle this academic challenge?" So when we tout academic rigor, we also have to tout supportive faculty and staff. And when we tout our supportive faculty and staff, we have to tout DEI. And when we tout DEI, it means we're accepting to all. But when we say "rigor" it can easily translate to "exclusive". And that can negate both the support and DEI initiatives that we think we have to shout at prospective students. Rigorous is not "bad". It just isn't an adjective thats suited for all institutions. Does your institution have a higher acceptance rate? Good. That doesn't dilute the quality of your academics or quality of student. It means that you are living out the mission of what education was meant to be in this country... and that is accessible for all. It means that you HAVE to have supportive faculty and staff that meet students where they are. It means you're likely to have DEI efforts interwoven into who you are naturally, rather than forcefully. It doesn't diminish your rigor. Students know that college is challenging. Hence the fear of being able to handle it. So why instill fear in them even more? Rigor is a term that is appropriate for many schools, but it may not be for yours. That doesn't make you any less quality. It doesn't diminish the prestige of your faculty and staff. It doesn't take away your accreditation. It makes you a better option for the millions of students who may not have a chance anywhere else. And it gives them a chance to have confidence that they are not only able, but worthy to get a degree. And be freaking proud of it. And that is a BEAUTIFUL thing. I write this as a note of encouragement... Plant your flag in what your STUDENTS need from you. It will make all the difference. #higheredmarketing #highered #brandstrategy

Check the link below! 😁 SNHU Announces Honor Roll for 24EW4 May 16, 2024 Congratulations on being named to Southern New Hampshire University's Honor Roll for the 24EW4 term! Honor Roll is a term-specific achievement that recognizes learners who excel at SNHU. It was established in 2022 to help recognize learners who do not qualify for President's List or Dean's List. Due to differences in term structures, SNHU's online and campus populations have different eligibility requirements for Honor Roll. Eligibility for the SNHU Honor Roll requires that a student earn an academic grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for the term, and meet the following criteria. Campus Students: Part-time, coursework-only, and graduate students studying on campus are eligible for the Honor Roll. Full-time campus students (12+ credits) are not eligible for the Honor Roll, but may be eligible for President's List or Dean's List. Online Learners: Due to differences in term structures, full- and part-time undergraduate and all graduate online students and coursework-only learners are eligible for the Honor Roll. Please note: Full-time online undergraduate students who receive the Honor Roll may also be eligible for President's List or Dean's List. SNHU's President's and Dean's Lists require online students to accumulate 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6 and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Honor Roll is evaluated at the end of every term while Dean's List and President's List are evaluated at the end of each set of paired terms for online students. While acknowledgement of Honor Roll is an achievement, it is not a recognized university honor and has no bearing on eligibility for honor societies, Latin honors or Ceremonial honors at the time of conferral or during the Commencement Ceremony, or any notation on the student's academic transcript or diploma.
