Shortly before boarding his connecting flight at Charlotte Douglas Airport, Ken Jeffries had a cardiac episode. Claire Cerbie, a former Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute nurse was boarding the same flight when she noticed Ken exhibiting signs of a heart attack. Her quick thinking and immediate action, including performing CPR and using an AED, brought Ken back to a stable condition as they waited for additional medical support to arrive. Ken was then treated at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center by interventional cardiologist Dr. William Downey. "Most people who this happens to die,” Downey said. “This is sudden death. Claire's CPR kept him alive.” “A ‘thank you’ is not enough. I am so appreciative and indebted to you,” Ken said as he spoke to Claire over a zoom. Since receiving cardiac care from the team at Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Ken has been able to recover and is a strong advocate for CPR and AED availability and training. Ken’s heartfelt gratitude for Claire is a powerful reminder of the impact of quick action and CPR training. Read more about Ken’s story here: https://ietv.co/3S4QEUC
