Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s Emergency Care Video Visit program has recently expanded across the Carolinas, serving over 1,000 patients in the past three months. This program is an innovative care model that allows patients to schedule a virtual visit with an emergency department provider. Using the innovative platform, 78% of patients avoided unnecessary ED visits, with 59% completing their consultations virtually and 19% being referred for outpatient evaluation. The Emergency Care Video Visit program has helped to provide patients with the reassurance they need to seek the most appropriate care for themselves and their loved ones. We are proud of the advancement to make care more convenient and accessible #FORALL Learn more: https://bit.ly/45AxkE3

🏡 Patients recover better at home than in hospital. A 2023 BMJ article showed that patients recovering at home generally have as good as or better outcomes than traditional inpatient care. Being around your loved ones, familiar surroundings and improved mental well-being are advantages you simply can't get in a hospital. Patients are also more than willing to recover at home than in a hospital. An article recently in The Health Foundation stated that 85% of those over 65 are happy to recover at home. But we wanted to know how our patients felt about recovering at home, so we caught up with them to find out. You can view their thoughts in the video below! Care2U believes that rapid, in-home care is a crucial complement to any transitional care visit when reducing all-cause readmissions. A recent study by the Mayo Clinic agrees, highlighting the effectiveness of in-home rapid response teams (RRTs) in reducing unnecessary emergency department (ED) visits after hospital-at-home discharge. Their program successfully managed 83% of patient deteriorations within the home setting, avoiding readmission. The 2023 expansion of the 2-midnight rule has affected about 20% of #MedicareAdvantage encounters. However, this rule, which requires patients to be admitted as inpatient if their treatment will be longer than two midnights, did not increase the number of inpatient hospital stays as sharply or as universally as that 20% would lead on. While quarter two numbers are reporting single digit increases in inpatient stays overall (just like quarter 1), some organizations are attributing that growth to improved advising by staff. Others are even reporting no definitive impact to inpatient stay numbers at all. Experts want more time to pass before making a final call on how this rule affects inpatient beneficiary care.
