Yes, scaling nature-based solutions requires fit-for-purpose data and monitoring solutions. At Chloris Geospatial, we are proud to empower companies, governments and civil society organisations with a viable data solution to assess, develop and monitor impactful forest conservation and restoration opportunities. And yes, understanding whether a specific remote-sensing technology is truly fit-for-purpose - and more than just nice marketing - is a challenging process for many decision-makers. So to complement the World Economic Forum video below, here are five key questions to consider when assessing the viability and trustworthiness of algorithmic forest carbon data: 1️⃣ How does the technology calculate and report uncertainty? 2️⃣ Are the estimates validated against robust, independent data? 3️⃣ Does the technology cover long time series? 4️⃣ Does the technology deliver consistent and spatially explicit results? 5️⃣ Is the technology scalable and cost-effective to use? Read more about it in our decision-making guide here: https://rb.gy/n1pm7z VCMI Verra ERS - Ecosystem Restoration Standard The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) Natural Climate Solutions Alliance

Wonderful to see the 50+ year old organization World Economic Forum recognize the types of technologies that must direct decisions over the next 50+ years… And to see Chloris Geospatial for what it is: a way for businesses to confidently make carbon market purchases knowing that their investment is valid and verified with accurate measurement. #carbonmarkets #innovation #tech

When it comes to mapping the potential impacts of #climatechange, many tools are out there, but it’s tough to know how they compare. Meet H&A Senior Scientist Carly Nemanic, who, along with H&A experts Hannah Sawyer and Sam Fisher, is making this difficult task easier. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g2FX2ZUJ

At Biogen, we believe in thinking broadly and considering the bigger picture as we advance our business. Recently, I had the privilege of attending the World Economy Summit in Washington DC, hosted by the fast-growing new media platform, Semafor. The event featured an incredible lineup of speakers who engaged in honest conversations about the geopolitical and economic challenges of our time, discussed opportunities for generative AI, and explored the evolution of our society. The panels with policy makers, CEOs, experts, and elected officials provided global and diverse views. I want to congratulate Justin B. Smith, Steve Clemons, Liz Hoffman, and the entire editorial team at Semafor for putting together such a thought-provoking event. While tech and energy dominated the discussion of national security and economic leadership, I reflected on the role of biotechnology, the importance of preparing for public health threats and aging population. We all have a collective responsibility to create a healthy world, and perhaps this could be a topic for next year's summit. Long live Semafor! The more quality journalism we have, the better our world will be. https://lnkd.in/eUrA4tSP https://lnkd.in/emkwTKyE

What a pleasure it was to present today with Pauline Scheelbeek, Max Callaghan and James Thomas at the first What Works Climate Solutions Summit in Berlin, on behalf of our Wellcome Trust funded project members, including Jan Minx, Julian Elliott and Dr Ashrita Saran. We presented the preliminary results of our project, with a focus on: * the use of digital #EvidenceSynthesis tools (DEST) in #climate and #health research; * the quality of evidence synthesis reporting; * the opinions of researchers and tool developers on using DEST, as well as how they might be developed in the future; * the use of #LLMs to assist with synthesising evidence; * how evaluations of #LLMs have been designed and what they have found so far.

#sustainability #NobelPrize I have responded to Bjorn Lomborg on X in an article Corals and Climate here: https://lnkd.in/ebGv9TWE. My X article is deliberately constructed to demonstrate how AI chatbots can be applied to climate science, with respect for existing research led by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) The Nobel Prize to ask the right questions for the purpose of depolarizing the climate debate toward more thoughtful, effective, and efficient private investments given that climate initiatives and laws are in place in most countries of the world, including China, United States, and Europe, in this order, the three largest polluters. My conclusion and recommendations, in light of the above, to respond to Nature and Lomborg - Conclusion: It appears a combination of factors could be causing harm to coral reef ecosystems around the world, ocean temperature variations being the dominant factor testing coral reef resilience. Recommendations: 1. Do no harm. This is as much a principle in human medicine as it must be for nature. Mitigate human behaviors given the ambiguity surrounding climate research and data which could cause potential harm to coral reef ecosystems. 2. More empirical science in preparation for the next IPCC report is needed from climate scientists around the world engaged with the IPCC to ascertain two things - A. Better data on ocean temperature variation since industrial times began about 250 years ago, similar to atmospheric chemistry and earth's temperature rise. B. Interplay of the various factors already known that affect coral reef ecosystems.
We're not being informed well: This week, Nature magazine (and most other media) played up a new paper predicting the end of the Great Barrier Reef Same week, the actual data: never better You can see all the references in my Twitter thread: https://lnkd.in/dYasE_3N https://lnkd.in/dZ3-N4TW
