Some of London’s most incredible buildings and structures don’t exist anymore. This article brings small, low resolution photos and I can't help but thinking: What if we had the Matterport technology back then to capture and preserve these landmarks in a digital form? What if we could explore the Whitehall Palace or Holland House? Matterport Digital Twins have the potential to bridge the gap between past and present, ensuring that even as physical structures fade away, their digital counterparts stand the test of time. Museums and history books offer valuable insights, but the ability to virtually wander through these lost structures adds a layer of understanding that is unparalleled. The Lark is a bardic space manifested ‘in the light of thought’ and form. What is the purpose of an architectural space, what is its function and its form? These are critical questions when it comes to reflecting on how awards and accolades should be provided in recognition of the relative merit of a particular building and the people who have made that space happen. At a time of culture wars, where social extremists are forcefully tugging at the resilience of the fabric of community cohesion, it’s heartening to see that one building has risen to the heights of inspiration to provide a venue for people to come together in pursuit of creativity and innovation through the arts. These are pursuits that are pure of spirit, and which seek harmony above discord. This spatial ambition realises the best attributes of what the function of a wonderful building might be – that is its capacity to bring about the best in humanity. In terms of its form, The Lark, Ireland’s newest concert hall, is aesthetically astounding, with its façade reflecting the musicality of its purpose. So, The Lark embodies, in the words of Shelly’s ode, a realising of ‘the light of thought’, form, and purpose. I must admit to an element of bias in my observations here, because my brother, Michael Bracken, provided the beautifully finessed marble finish for the building. Nonetheless, I’ll unashamedly be giving it my vote for Ireland’s Favourite Building for 2024 as proposed by the the RIAI, and I’d encourage you to cast vote a for The Lark here as well! https:thelark.ie/vote/

This publication documents the GHETTO exhibition, which was displayed at the Museum of Vancouver between August 23, 2023 and January 1, 2024. GHETTO originally exhibited at the European Cultural Centre (ECC) 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale and Art Gallery of Ontario (2022) before travelling to Vancouver.     For the MOV exhibit, GHETTO proposed a theoretical rezoning project in Vancouver’s False Creek and sought to encourage meaningful dialogue on our collective responsibility to care for one another through the creation of inclusive cities. “How can we live together?” highlights the public input on a housing survey, which was gathered from over 15,000 visitors during the Vancouver exhibition. GRAND RAPIDS ART MUSEUM GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, USA (1983) https://lnkd.in/esSAhwYC This proposal revitalizes the city's downtown area by reusing a distinguished, but now vacant, former government building and by adapting a number of abandoned or underused neighboring structures for additional cultural functions. The main 1908 Beaux-Arts building is upgraded to meet codes and programmatic requirements. A relocation of the entrance from the closed side of the U-shaped building to the open court-yard establishes a direct physical relationship between the museum and its surroundings while creating a single, unified entrance. Covering the court-yard, a translucent inclined plane of stairs has an opening at its center that leads to the Grand Foyer which is a shared space for the different departments. Water descends slowly and evenly from the top of the stairway along a channel carved into the plane, leaving a clear pedestrian path for those walking up the stairs. This water is, in fact, the very water used for the air-conditioning system. In this way, the need for an unsightly cooling tower has been eliminated and this silent cascade becomes the focal point of the city's newest public space. Researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts involved in the process of preservation, conservation, renovation or transformation of buildings, sites, and neighborhoods of the Modern Movement are invited to submit abstracts that investigate "Streams of Modernity: Postwar to Postmodern." Miami is a city whose location, diversity, and vibrant growth have historically made it an ideal destination for international travel, business, culture, and leisure. The region became an escape for post-World War II middle America, shaped largely by the desire for leisure and entertainment. Over the past decades, Miami has become a laboratory to explore new urban patterns, building types, evolving aesthetics, and emerging environmental consciousness.
