It’s a time to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, friends and community members, and to reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. June is Pride month 🏳️🌈 Have you considered what it is like to be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in your workplace? 🤔 Businesses have an obligation to ensure that whatever diversity legislation they have put in place filters down to every member of staff to raise awareness and understanding. This includes the use of preferred pronouns. Respectfully ask which pronouns an individual would like to use and ensure that this preference is met. It is also important that any claims of harassment or homophobia are taken seriously. One in five LGBTQIA+ employees have experience verbal abuse or bullying in the workplace and one in eight people would not feel confident reporting such an experience. Many within the community feel there are not enough role models in the workforce to encourage LGBTQIA+ employees to be open. To counter this, businesses should advertise their diversity policies prominently on their website. Or, in job adverts, state something along the lines of "We welcome applications from the LGBTQIA+ community." Challenge negative stereotypes and attitudes to ensure that your workplace is a safe and welcoming environment for people from all walks of life 🙌🏻 Happy Pride month! #pridemonth #lgbtqia #inclusion #diversity

🌈 A while back, I did a post about my role as Global Co-chair of the LGBTQIA+ Perspectives Group at Trinity and have received a few messages asking more information about our mission / initiatives, so I thought about sharing more about it 🌈 1 - What is the LGBTQIA+ Perspectives group? At Trinity Life Sciences, there are several employee resource groups that drive initiatives to foster diversity and inclusion in our organization, including Gender, Culture, and LGBTQIA+ Perspectives Groups. Each group has executive sponsors that advocate for our initiatives and respective visibility in our organization, and provide guidance about our events. The LGBTQIA+ group counts with two amazing sponsors: Krista Perry, and Monica Martin de Bustamante. In addition we have two co-chairs, Sarah Schneider and myself. Finally, the group has 20+ employees from all offices worldwide that wish to participate in our initiatives. 2 - Which initiatives do we organize? We organize three types of events: #1 Educational events: we invite guest speakers that share insights / experience / stories related to LGBTQIA+ topics. For example, this year we organized a trans panel event where we invited two doctors, Isabel (Izzy) Lowell, MD, MBA, and Laura Erickson-Schroth who shared the science beyond transitioning. #2 Social events: we promote happy hours, particularly during pride month, to celebrate our community. The picture below was taken in my visit to the London office last year during pride with my fellow colleagues including Phoebe Huzar, Charlotte Carver, Sonia Acosta Luis, Laura Halsey, Supriya Kumar, Salomé Monreal Louly, and many more! #3 Core LGBTQIA+ Discussions: we aim to create a safe space for all employees including allies to feel comfortable to discuss concerns, questions, etc. Therefore, we organize regular meetings to discuss news, or any LGBTQIA+ related topic. These initiatives are only possible with Trinity leadership support that actively incentivizes our events (including giving us designated budget!) This journey of allyship has taught me the importance of listening, learning, and leveraging my position to advocate for a more inclusive society. It aligns perfectly with my core values of respect for people and the belief that embracing our diverse experiences enriches us all, pushing us towards greater innovation and success. So, what can we do to support and celebrate this month? Start by engaging in open conversations about the history and significance of Pride. Educate yourself and others, and reflect on the role you can play in promoting an inclusive culture, both professionally and personally. As leaders and aspiring leaders, let's challenge ourselves to foster environments that celebrate diversity and support LGBTQ+ employees, recognizing that true leadership is inclusive leadership. 🌈 June is Pride month 🌈 Pride month is all about acceptance, equality and celebrating the work of LGBTQIA+ people. It's also an opportunity to raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ history and educate people LGBTQIA+ topics.   For the most marginalised groups in the LGBTQIA+ community, we are seeing backwards trends to progress. The trans community are facing laws being passed across the world to make inclusion and transition an even more difficult topic and process than it already is.   There are also rising numbers of trans murders and violence. Those who are part of the ‘silent letters’ groups within the community (including non-binary, agender, gender queer) also face discrimination, harassment, and erasure.   Although a key symbolic symbol, Pride month isn’t just about rainbow flags because LGBTQIA+ inclusion should take place 365 days of the year. This is why Lifetime Group has our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy in place to make sure we’re always considering the rights and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community when decisions are being made, and to avoid any kind of ‘performative allyship’.

As Pride Month unfolds, we see an array of brands changing their logos to vibrant rainbow colors, showcasing their support for the LGBTQIA+ community. While these visual gestures are appreciated, true allyship demands a deeper commitment. It’s time for companies to think beyond the surface and focus on embedding lasting change within their organizational culture. True allyship begins with cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. It's essential to move from performative gestures to meaningful actions. This means implementing policies and practices that foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout the organization. Allyship must be a year-round commitment, not just during Pride Month. Consistent engagement ensures that support for the LGBTQIA+ community is ingrained in the company’s ethos. By embedding these values into our workplace culture, we do more than create an inclusive environment—we set a precedent for others. Our actions can inspire other organisations and individuals to join us in the journey towards true equality and acceptance. Pride Month is a time to celebrate the progress we've made, but it's also a reminder of the work still to be done.
