First aXess Pivotal Trial Cases in Spain   Last week, a team led by Prof. Dr. Gaspar Mestres completed the first implantations of the aXess vascular access conduit in Spain, at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, as part of the ongoing aXess pivotal trial.   The aXess pivotal study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of the Xeltis hemodialysis access conduit in patients with end-stage renal disease. Despite the severity of this disease, it continues to be an area of high unmet need. BD is making strides each day to tackle this serious vascular disease by delivering tools and devices that are less invasive, require fewer procedural steps for clinicians and may result in faster recovery for patients. Prior to the initiation of the MICRO2 trial, the recently published MICRO trial demonstrated CardioFlux MCG's ability to diagnose coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) in the space of a 90-second, no-contact scan - a first-of-its-kind exploration in what is now six decades of research into MCG. In contrast, the current gold standard for diagnosis is invasive coronary functional angiography, an option which remains practically out-of-reach for a majority of patients who likely suffer from CMD today. Worse still, clinician recognition of CMD and its impact on long-term outcomes remains low, perhaps due in part to the lack of simple, highly accessible options for diagnosis today.
