I am excited to have been part of #UXinsightFestival as a volunteer! 🎉 The energy and enthusiasm from everyone was truly inspiring. 📊 Some notable facts & figures that caught my eye (check out the slide deck for more): 💯💯💯💯💯 500+ participants! There were over 500 participants! Still, it felt like a cozy group, at least to me. 👥 59% UX researchers Of the participants, 59% were UX or user researchers. The other big groups were UX designers, leads, and managers. 💖 Top-liked aspects: 🗣 Talks' quality, diversity, relevance. 🗃️ Organization. 🕸 Community and networking opportunities. 💭 One suggestion that resonated with me was the need for improved networking support for shyer participants, a challenge I can imagine some attendees may face. I'll keep an eye out for potential solutions and ideas. 🗓 Mark your calendars for UXinsight Festival 2025: April 14-16! Stay curious, be bold everyone! 🌱

I had an awesome time speaking at UX Crunch "Designing Beyond Accessibility" by Iconic Agency (Previously Tech Circus) at Fora last week. Exceptional organisers (thank you Myles McMorrow and Luke Reed), welcoming venue and staff, and a brilliant #community. What I took away: 🦺 Designers and researchers would like to know about the techniques to take care of themselves when moderating sensitive research (safeguarding) 🧑💻 People are interested in learning about moderating research with participants with vision and hearing loss, remotely 🫶 There are a lot of ways to ensure we design with care, and don’t unknowingly expose people to triggering experiences (wealth of examples by Erika Menczigar, a solid presentation from Afreen Saulat) 💡 1 in 4 people will be 60 by 2025, and we are nowhere near designing for nearly 2 billion people(mind-blowing stat and great work from Stacey M.) 🧑🤝🧑 It’s key to think about the decision-makers and engage core stakeholders in our process, demonstrating tangible impact your research makes (very informative tips on planning inclusive research from Marianthi Vezertzi) 🚀 Drop us a line at Cosmic Velocity if you’d like to make sure your products and services serve a broader and more diverse audience ❤️ Lovely photo credit Aneta Zokaite #design #research #InclusiveResearch #ServiceDesign #Events #Community #Collaboration

So thought I’d share some I’ve come across/been involved with since my time in London as I often get asked for recommendations: 🚀 Ladies that UX London - Bi-monthly in-person events for women in UX. Relaxed atmosphere with talks or panels and the most lovely, supportive community. 🚀 Product Unleashed - Brighton and London meet-ups for digital product professionals. Features awesome speakers, pizza, and networking. Hosts John and Dominic make it especially fun! 🚀 The Research Thing - Events for UX researchers, both online and in-person. Ideal for those seeking research-specific gatherings. 🚀 Natter Community - Manchester-based, with the loveliest volunteer-led community for digital design professionals and newcomers to the industry. 🚀 Askable - I may be a bit biased here, but we have an incredible community of UXers who meet regularly in-person for research focussed events with industry-leading speakers, and plenty of time for chats (plus incredible grazing boards) P.s. Are in-person conferences for extroverts only? Last year, the theme of our UX research conference was "Pause, Rewind & Play". To give participants a chance to take a break from all the activity, the bar, sponsor booths, and networking peers, we set up a quiet "Pause" area — a space for those who wanted to unwind and take time for themselves. Even though the theme for this year's conference will be different (“Stay Curious, Be Bold”), we have decided to bring back the Pause area as a result of the many positive comments we received last year from our attendees and speakers. So, whether you're an introvert, social introvert, or extrovert, feel free to retreat to this space if you need a break during the 2024 Festival. #UXResearch #UX #UserResearch #UXinsightFestival
