Today marks the 80th anniversary of the end of Operation Market Garden, a pivotal yet flawed initiative in World War II. While it aimed to secure a swift victory in the Netherlands, miscalculations in planning led to significant losses and highlighted the complexities of warfare. The courage and sacrifice of the Allied combatants during this operation remind us of the human cost of military endeavors. As we reflect on this historical event, we must consider the lessons learned: the importance of thorough planning, the need for clear communication, and the value of adaptability in the face of uncertainty. These insights remain relevant in today’s fast-paced and unpredictable world, guiding us to make more informed decisions in our personal and professional lives. Let us honor the legacy of those who fought and strive to apply these lessons in our pursuit of progress.

This is a great read of recommendations regarding the global military trauma system and the framing of future global health engagements. There are some pretty salient points in here regarding the focus of how we use the limited time and resources we have to help build capability and connectedness.

Some really great salient points to think about.
⏰ for a 🔥TAKE — the military is excellent at indoctrinating us into it because it should be, and it is not excellent at out-processing us because it shouldn’t be. It’s on us to investigate, understand, and apply our own experiences for ourselves. The military gave us the toolkit. We just have to pull the tools out and use them. I love Halty’s application of military frameworks: ⭕️ Identity ⭕️ Community ⭕️ Sense Making ⭕️ Purpose 🔴 Meaning Do the work that’s right in front of you, and see what happens. The proposal in this paper is ambitious. It perhaps would have been useful to have exposed more of the barriers to forming a Global Trauma System, noting that those barriers will all be linked to human behaviours. The challenges stem from different approaches to medical practice, different licensing regimes for pharmaceutical products, different standards for (digital) information exchange, different ways of ‘doing’ blood and blood products, national regulations on medical data and, possibly most importantly, a ‘peacetime’ mentality towards change that values perfection over speed (that tends to change once war breaks out). All these issues can be overcome, but they will require significant investment of time and resources by government health(care) ministries and related regulatory bodies. The military will struggle to achieve this on its own, but needs to be ready to be the change agent to test and experiment with possible solutions. NATO offers a good test bed and has already begun the journey towards interoperability.

#TheMorningInclusive: Memorial Day, Honoring Gave Their Lives in Service On this solemn Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave individuals who have selflessly served in our armed forces. Their unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and courage have safeguarded our freedom and way of life. 🌹 Remembering the Fallen: Today, we pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their names are etched in history, their valor immortalized. We honor the fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who gave their lives so that we could freely live our bold, authentic selves. Their memory lives on, reminding us of the cost of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 🎖️ Respect for Those Who Serve: Our military personnel, a diverse group of individuals from various backgrounds and beliefs, embody the spirit of duty, honor, and sacrifice. They stand tall in the face of adversity, protecting our nation’s values and liberties. Let us also express our deepest gratitude to these heroes who proudly wear their uniforms, knowing that their service ensures our safety and prosperity. 🤝 Creating a Place Where Everyone Belongs: As we reflect on the significance of Memorial Day, let us extend our commitment beyond remembrance. Let us create a world where everyone knows they belong—a society where diversity is celebrated, and unity prevails. Just as our military stands shoulder to shoulder, regardless of background or beliefs, let us foster inclusivity in our workplaces, communities, and hearts. 🔗 Linking Gratitude and Belonging: Our respect for those who serve and our dedication to creating an inclusive environment are interconnected. When we honor our military, we honor the ideals they defend—the very principles that make belonging possible. Let us carry this spirit forward, ensuring that every person is valued, heard, and accepted. 🙌 Together, We Remember: This Memorial Day, let us stand together, not only in remembrance but also in action. Let us express our gratitude, support our veterans, and work toward a world where everyone knows they belong. Each of us has the power to make a difference. #MemorialDay #UnitedWeStand #Gratitude #Belonging #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #Accessibility NOTE: This image was created with Copilot to summarize this text.

Talk about motivating! Sarah Katherine Sisk
Last night, I had the immense honor of attending the Sunset Parade, at the Marine Corps Memorial, in honor of Senator Ted Budd (R-NC). The Marine Corps’ sunset and evening parades are always beautiful, but I found myself a bit emotional watching last night. Last night, Kayla Haas served as Adjutant of the parade. For those unaware, it is incredibly rare to see a woman in the parade. It’s even more rare to see them leading it, as Adjutant. For generations, little girls saw Marines and had to question whether they could hold their own among the ranks of men. Sure, they could aspire to become a United States Marine, but they didn’t have a visual representation of what they were striving to become - a role model or a hero, if you will. Now, little girls across the country have the chance to SEE that they, too, can become United States Marines. It’s no longer simply a dream. It’s clear as day - they can break through ceilings, they can blaze new trails, and they can lead United States Marines. She did that. #marinecorps #marines #semperfidelis #betheone #washingtondc

TUC - TRUST - the key in the door, UNDERSTANDING - realising the extent of the task and finally COURAGE - to drive your vision through
I recently finished Arthur Herman’s book ‘Freedom’s Forge’ about how President Franklin Roosevelt energized the nation’s defense industrial base well before the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the mid-1930s, America was not prepared. But America changed that, through a massive build-up, involving military, industry, and every-day American citizens. In many ways, we are an environment similar to the 1930s. I want to ensure we have the defense industrial base that can produce capability when we need it. We need to have some level of consistency. If we have consistency in demand and resources, that builds trust. By building that trust, the defense industrial base can build out their work force, supply chain, and their facilities. If we're able to do this, then we are going to get our capability much faster, on time, and less expensive. The Department has laid out a National Defense Industrial Strategy that talks about our workforce and our supply chains. We want to make sure we understand how we're able to build up the capability and capacity that will be put it into the hands of our war fighters and to ensure any fight we might enter will be unfair.
