🌭 When building strong teams, let them eat sausages! As a Swiss based Group we pride ourselves on high levels of quality and punctuality across the board. However, our delivery performance from our Swiss factory has been only average over the past few years — sadly not in accordance with our top-quality claim. In 2023 we vowed to change this 👇 An initiative was set up to meet a very ambitious on-time delivery goal.  Last week we smashed it. 👊 This would not have been possibility without the excellent teamwork across a variety of departments like engineering, pattern shop, foundry, machining, purchasing, quality, assembly, test bench, logistics or sales support. As a measure of gratitude for the support I received in fulfilling this project, a feast was in order. What better way to reward an incredible team than through our traditional "Wurst & Brot" (sausage & bread), barbecued by myself and my leadership team consisting of Felix Landert, Jörg Heingärtner, Reto Baumer and Ioannis Tzikas in our factory. 😋 Incidentally, in line with our sustainability values, our grill was repurposed from scrap from our Swiss foundry. 🌱 Improving our delivery performance was a key objective, instrumental to the success of our group of local companies worldwide. We are delighted to have over exceeded our very challenging goal. Now it is time to sustainably secure our achievements. Do I need cantilever racking?    Well, if you hold stock which is heavy and/or long in length. Pretty wild stat - every year, there are 1.9 billion pieces of HI-CHEW being eaten in the United States alone. That’s nearly 3,600 pieces per minute...and growing... HI-CHEW has grown 20% YoY, and I expect that to continue as their manufacturer, Morinaga America, announced that they’ll be constructing a new ~$130M expansion to their existing facility in North Carolina, bringing in an incremental ~100K SQ FT (total of 200K). Construction is scheduled to begin in October of this year, and the expansion area of the facility is expected to open in early 2027. Morinaga initially spent ~$50 million to build its existing manufacturing facility in Mebane, NC, where it currently employs more than 200 people. Anyone else surprised by the magnitude of capital needed to double the footprint? Do any candy experts (please tag them!) have any experience with HI-CHEW’s unique processing? Feels like the processing / forming wouldn't be too dissimilar from Hubba Bubba's MAX SKUs but just speculating. I know things take time, but on top of the capital outlay (2.5x+ the initial build-out), estimating 2+ years for a facility expansion feels lengthy unless the (custom) equipment from the OEM is the bottleneck. Either way, exciting to see more international holding companies bring even more manufacturing capacity stateside.
