Isn’t it such a great feeling when you see evidence that something you have taught is being generalised and applied in new contexts. I was lucky enough to have two examples of this yesterday. The first was during a conversation in which someone spoke about modelling the use of “leaves you feeling” language as opposed to “makes you feel.” This felt a particularly big win as it is an aspect of #ProtectiveBehaviours which can be particularly difficult for some to shift their thinking about. The second I witnessed first hand, when returning from the photocopier with a pupil carrying some pages who said that they needed to do a Protective Interruption (their words) to cover one of the pages, as it contained something which affected their feelings of safety- a simple typo but all the same it is not my place to judge or decide how they or anyone else feels about actions or events around us. I genuinely feel excited about the impact our whole school approach to PBs is having across our community. #leader #progress #smallstepsbigresults #learning #wholeschool

Today, whilst I was thinking about the next monthly 'Philosophical Friends' group meeting, on Wednesday 15th November 2023 at the Gosport Museum and Art Gallery, a new local venture aimed at bringing #philosophical thinking and questioning to people's everyday life, I came across a piece a colleague and I put together whilst working in my role as a SAPERE P4C trainer in schools. It reminded me why thinking philosophically continues to be so important to me, why it's difficult to separate P4C from the person I am and why I've adopted a philosophical coaching style to bring philosophical thinking to the lives of individuals, young people and communities. 'I am a staunch and passionate advocate and promoter of Philosophy for Children, Young People and Communities (P4C). For me, #p4c is a transformational educational pedagogy and social practice which extends beyond the school community. It emphasises the importance of questioning and enquiry in the development of reasoning. P4C places practical wisdom, reasonableness and good judgement as a goal of education, empowering children, young people and adults to think for themselves, reflect on what sort of person they are or would like to be and what contribution they can make in life'. Following a new pathway into the world of 'Practical Philosophy' in the community and becoming a 'Philosophical Thinking' Coach, I help people figure out life: reflect on their values and beliefs, find ways to make changes to their thinking and take steps to live their true life.

Those of you who know me, will understand why hearing about the impact of our programme fills my soul. We often hear the phrase 'Soft skills' in relation to confidence, communication and teamwork. I know that they are 'Essential skills' for both life and career so definitely not desirable or soft. Our programme is so rich with content that impact is evident in many areas for our children, including #RaisingAspirations, #employability, #resilience #selfdiscovery, #confidence, #kindness #ArtOfThePssoble and #goalsetting. There is so much more and our teachers tell us that it's a joyful and enlightening experience to deliver, which I just love hearing. The world is a difficult place for teachers and children so I am delighted to hear that we can make a difference and spread some joy.
