Paolo Chiantini came from Italy. He is an architect. According to him, participating in the mission was a good opportunity. Let's listen to him. The visit to the fair takes place within the framework of the Go International call within the framework of the #AECEurocluster project. AECeurocluster is EU funded project and supports the innovation, technology adoption and internationalization of SMEs. Five selected SMEs, one from Ireland, two from Italy and three from Slovenia, attended the Big 5 Construct Saudi fair in Riyadh. Fact 🤓 A new reality unfolds in the Horizon projects landscape! It's fascinating to observe the transformations in the ranking of participating countries. With the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union, it has been dethroned from the top three spots, paving the way for Italy, which is now solidifying its position in the Horizon Europe projects leaderboard. Additionally, another notable change is the rise of Austria, ascending in the ranks of the most active participating countries, displacing Switzerland from the top 10. A clear testament to the commitment and excellent level of research in this country. With pride, we note that Romania has entered the top 20, signaling growth and a significant contribution within the Horizon Europe program. Out of a total of 165 countries, this achievement highlights our contribution to research and innovation at the European level. Let's continue to engage actively and collaborate to promote excellence in research and innovation, thus building a brighter and more innovative future for Europe and the world!

🔎 Exploring the contribution of smart specialization strategies to a Mediterranean green and just transition! 📌 ASCAME, on behalf of the #Dialogue4Tourism Project #D4T, attended yesterday in Barcelona the kick-off of the 2nd MED Innovation Camp, a two-day event organized by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme 2021-2017 D4T Project -through its Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission- in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre. This year’s edition focuses on the role of smart specialization strategies (S3) in supporting green and just transition in the Mediterranean. The event gathers the S3 practitioners with other actors of the innovation ecosystems from the Interreg community to strengthen connections and to share opportunities to work together and find new pathways to address sustainability challenges and SDGs. 💡 These are some insights from the main speakers in the opening session that was followed by different working sessions: ✅ Ms. Elisabetta Marinelli (S3 CoP): “Interregional policy is essential. A key issue is interregional cooperation and transformative innovation. There is a need for action; innovation policy needs to be transformative.” ✅ Mr. Alasdair Reid (European Future Innovation System (EFIS) Centre ): “It is a priority to focus on the linkage between mission objectives and the regional strategies of regions and cities. The political cycle mustn't break the sustainable and innovation missions. Keeping the understanding among the population of the importance of keeping these goals on sustainability." ✅ Mr. Alessandro Daraio (Dialogue4Innovation Lead Partner): “Sometimes is very difficult to connect a small objective of our projects with big regional strategies of regions/ and cities. However, we can take more risks than Public Administrations (that cannot fail).” ✅ Mr. FERNANDO MERIDA MARTIN (Spanish Government - General Secretariat for Innovation): “Due to the smart specialization process in a very accurate way (with new instruments and policies), we have integrated the interregional thinking.” ✅ Ms. Tatiana Fernandez (Head of Economic Strategy at the Government of Catalonia): “If we want to integrate project results, they should be aligned with regional policies. On the contrary, it is difficult to change policies to include project results.”

I am pleased to announce that the third paper of my PhD is accepted for publication in Journal of International Management! ✍ Within this paper, René Belderbos and I evaluate whether the focus on international knowledge networks may render it less likely that global cities establish and maintain intensive local innovation linkages with their surrounding areas. We argue that while the relationship between the global network orientation of global cities and their local linkages with their surrounding areas is negative, the strength of this relationship depends on global city and surrounding regions' knowledge base and the ease of local linkage formation.
