"Carnon Fact for the Day" 🌍 Did you know? As urbanization accelerates, the vulnerability of coastal cities becomes a critical global issue. With 8 of the world's 10 largest cities located near coastlines, these urban centers face significant risks from climate change, including rising sea levels, flooding, and increased storm intensity. This reality spotlights the urgent need for sustainable urban planning, resilient infrastructure, and comprehensive climate adaptation strategies. #climatechange #urbanresilience #sustainablecities #coastalprotection

We call our planet #motherearth - it takes care of us, despite all the exploitation and abuse we inflict on her. How long do we continue to do so and how low do we sink, before we really sink? It is high time we take a serious look at our lives on our planet. #climatechange #climateaction #coastalland is sinking, and #oceanlevels are rising- a double punch https://lnkd.in/gy_7kcYE

🌧️ Facing the Flood: Innovative Solutions for a Changing Climate 🌊 Climate change is transforming our world, bringing more frequent and severe floods that challenge our communities and ecosystems. How do we adapt? 💡 Innovative Strategies: 1. Green Infrastructure: Harness nature's power with wetlands, green roofs, and permeable pavements to manage runoff. 2. Smart Forecasting: Use cutting-edge technology for precise flood predictions and early warnings. 3. Resilient Design: Build infrastructure that withstands extreme weather, ensuring critical services stay operational. 4. Community Power: Educate and empower communities to prepare and respond effectively. 5. Rainwater Harvesting: Implement systems to capture and store rainwater from rooftops, roads, and open spaces, which can then be used during dry periods, reducing demand on conventional water sources. 6. Groundwater Recharging: Use techniques such as recharge wells and percolation tanks to direct captured rainwater back into the ground, restoring depleted groundwater levels and reducing surface runoff. 🌍 Why It Matters: Protecting our water resources isn't just about survival—it's about thriving in a changing world. By embracing innovation and collaboration, we can turn the tide on flooding and secure a sustainable future. Join the movement for a resilient tomorrow! 🚀 #ClimateChange #FloodManagement #Innovation #GreenInfrastructure #Resilience #Sustainability #RainwaterHarvesting #GroundwaterRecharge #WaterResourceManagement #WaterResourcesEngineering

When we look at the causes and impacts of mega-storms, saying that our cities "aren't designed for this” is true. But climate change isn’t the only factor to blame for submerged highways and flooded homes. City planning and traditional infrastructure have a huge impact on how we cope with a deluge. Climate change is rapidly worsening tidal flooding and escalating risks to essential and valuable coastal infrastructure that millions depend on. According to a new analysis released today by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) titled “Looming Deadlines for Coastal Resilience,” nearly 1,100 critical infrastructure assets along the U.S. coastline would flood 12 times per year on average, or the equivalent of once a month, by 2050, assuming a medium rate of sea level rise. That number could jump to more than 5,300 critical infrastructure assets at risk by 2100. The more than 1,700 U.S. communities with at-risk critical infrastructure assets between now and the century’s end are home to nearly 7.4 million people, with Massachusetts’ communities and infrastructure highly exposed. 📖 https://lnkd.in/eHn-ubxk #environmentallaw #environmentallawyer #newportri #desautelbrowninglaw #rhodeisland #newengland

This summer saw temperatures across the country, especially in northern states, soar well beyond 40 degrees Celsius. Even cooler hill stations sweated through summer. The searing intense heat has a message – do not cut trees. But, unfortunately, lakhs of trees have been axed, and many more will be, for ‘development’ projects. Planning and building cities without recognising the role of urban treescapes is an invitation to climate disasters such as heat waves, floods and air pollution. The spate of construction and concretisation disregarding natural wealth – primarily tree cover — is unsustainable. https://lnkd.in/dgtab3CA #climatecrisis #climateaction #ClimateJustice #Heatstress #urbanfloods #natureincities
