Rise & Shine people it's Monday again - Another week full of possibilities to make things right! ☀ Let's talk about #Workplace Environments 😎 And no, I don't mean the colorful walls of your office, wear Jeans on Fridays, or the full-time barista serving you coffee around the clock. I'm talking about the entire system you interact with daily, from the moment you arrive at the office until you clock out. When we define the term #WorkplaceEnvironment, many factors come into play, such as: ✔ Your manager ✔ Your colleagues ✔ Your acquaintances at work ✔ Your office facilities ✔ Your clients ✔ Your commute time ✔ Your benefits ✔ Your work system (operations) ✔ Your basic human rights as simple as taking a sick leave when you're really sick! And the list goes on... What can we learn from this? A #WorkplaceEnvironment is an individual experience. Each person will have a unique perspective based on how they are treated and their interactions within the workplace within the people around them. As we grow older and take on more senior positions, we start looking for healthy environments, not just perks like free coffee, beanbags and a meditation room! And that doesn’t also mean accepting a dysfunctional workplaces; a proper office is essential for productivity. And as we mature, we stop focusing on trivialities and start seeing the big picture. We start caring more about scarce resources like health, mental well-being, and our precious time spent both before and after work. A healthy workplace environment fosters trust, respect, and a sense of belonging, which are crucial for maintaining one's mental well-being in the place they spend a third of their lives in. Implement this one rule to keep your work team happy. I picked up an invaluable tip from my husband that is certain to transform how we work. And it could revolutionize your employee retention strategy as well. I'm someone who likes to work a few hours over the weekend to prepare for the week ahead. However, sending emails at all hours likely puts my team (and clients) under pressure to respond immediately, even when they should be unwinding. Here’s the brilliant rule my husband implemented at his workplace: - No emails before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on weekdays. - Zero emails on weekends, holidays, or vacations. He ensures his team knows they don't need to be tethered to their emails outside of work hours. If something urgent pops up, he'll call them directly. This policy applies to his managers and their teams too. Taking a leaf out of his book, I’ve started to schedule my weekend emails to go out at 8 a.m. on Monday instead. While I'm still working to perfect this practice, the goal is crystal clear: - My work habits shouldn't impact others' work-life balance. - Embracing this approach can be transformative for recruitment, retention, and promoting a healthier work-life balance across the board.
