What am I doing wrong? 😕 I was recently asked this question by a job seeker who has been applying for jobs for months. Of course we talked about key things that are important to do during a job search (including things like tailoring resumes, networking, following up on applications). And, we also talked about the reality that they may not be doing anything wrong at all. The market is tough right now - in fact, just yesterday, the jobs report was revised by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics and the data shared indicated there were over 800,000 LESS jobs than previously reported. There are so many things outside of the control of a job seeker - including the number of jobs available, the number of applicants per job, the amount of time it takes a company to hire for the role and the fact that some roles are posted and then are ‘turned off.' So, it is possible that as a job seeker you are doing all the right things and still waiting for the opportunity. This is what makes the job search particularly hard right now. As hard as it is to stay motivated by the challenges of the job search, continuing to focus on what you CAN control vs. what is completely out of your control is the best way to stay the course and maintain some sanity throughout the process. Also, lean into your support network they can help support you while navigate the ups and downs of this process. #jobsearch #careers #remotework
