We're nearing the end of this series celebrating National Interprofessional Healthcare Month! I've decided to close with a focus on social determinants of health - the frequently ignored upstream environmental factors that contribute to health and well-being. Many years ago, a residency rotation at a free interprofessional medical clinic that served a large population of patients living with diabetes left an indelible impression on me. I was shocked and appalled that we needed to scramble around the edges of the healthcare system to help people obtain their life-saving medications. While we've certainly made progress as a society since then, the it's-a-marathon-not-a-sprint pace of change in healthcare remains a source of genuine frustration. There's no doubt that millions among us continue to skip medical care - or ration their spending on it - due to life circumstances. This image comes from "HOLISTIC: An Illustrated Case Study," co-authored by Denise Walbrandt Pigarelli with art by George Folz. It's a phenomenal demonstration of #interprofessional collaboration between a pharmacist, podiatrist, and social worker to help a patient obtain her insulin - and prevent the deterioration of a newly forming diabetic foot ulcer - during a challenging time in her life. From: Margolis A, Walbrandt Pigarelli DL, Schend VA, Sorkness CA, Zorek JA. Chapter 3: Primary Care. In: Zorek JA. Interprofessional Practice in Pharmacy: Featuring Illustrated Case Studies. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill; 2021:45-72.

Meet Dr. Paul, a healthcare professional who was struggling with the daily grind of managing patient appointments. The scenario was all too familiar: no-shows, cancellations, and never-ending reminders. That was until Porton’s online appointment scheduling system came into play. Implementing Porton revolutionized how appointments were managed. Patients gained the flexibility to schedule, cancel, or reschedule their visits online. The result was a dramatic decrease in no-shows, more efficient operations, and heightened patient satisfaction. Dr. Paul’s story is a testament to how embracing technology can streamline operations and allow healthcare providers to focus on delivering personalized patient care. Mother | Founder @ Patiently | Bridging the gap between healthcare solutions and patient understanding | Medical Engineer
Patiently emerged as our answer to the silent question many patients ask: What does this mean for me? Born from countless hospital stays and inspired by the resilience of families on their health journeys, our platform is designed for anyone who’s felt overwhelmed by the complexity of medical language. My own path through the healthcare system began much earlier than most. Born prematurely and facing asthma from a young age, hospitals were as familiar to me as playgrounds are to other children. These early experiences taught me not just resilience but highlighted the deep divide between medical professionals and patients—a gap where jargon breeds confusion and fear. Watching my 3-year-old, Dr. Yam, in her play, serves as a poignant reminder of Patiently’s core mission: to render healthcare information not only accessible but meaningful for everyone, irrespective of their medical literacy. We invite you to join us in reenvisioning a healthcare system where no one feels like an outsider in their own health journey. We’re transforming the experience of health. #Patiently #EmpathyInAction #HealthcareReimagined #PatientCentered #FamilyDrivenInnovation #KosherStartup #MadeInIsrael

Happy Monday! 😀 It's NATIONAL PHYSICIANS👩⚕️WEEK!! National Physicians Week from March 25th -31st is to honor the healers dedicated to the art of medicine. In 2017, National Physicians Week highlighted the shortage of physicians in the United States against a growing landscape of minorities joining the ranks. "In hindsight, I am proud of what we have accomplished in a short period of time, including raising the recognition of our group and spotlighting the years of sacrifice by those in our profession to serve our patients. We are poised to initiate actionable efforts to engage and educate our physician community." Dr. Kimberly Funches Jackson, President. Every day, dedicated doctors 🧑⚕️provide quality care🩺 in every part of the country twenty-four hours a day. Whether it is in an emergency room in Idaho or delivering a newborn🤱 in the suburbs of Philadelphia, a physician listens to symptoms, watches for signs, analyzes and consults to make, with the patient, the best decisions their years of training and dedication can provide. PAST CELEBRATIONS: In 2018, Physicians Working Together celebrated with their first, National Physician Week physician-led virtual conference. Co-hosted by Physicians Working Together and Zenxmed, the conference included engaging speaker sessions. It also offered an open landscape for physicians to discuss ways to improve their practice and navigate the political landscape. Another area of focus on how physicians can improve relationships with patients and take action through advocacy groups. HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalPhysiciansWeek: Throughout the week, take the opportunity to show your support and appreciation for your physician 👨⚕️or a fellow professional. You can do this by giving them a red carnation🌹. Encourage others and spread the word through social media by using #NationalPhysiciansWeek and #PWT. Stay updated on all things PWT by visiting best2gether.org and the Physicians Working Together website. #dynamicpressurewashingandroofcleaning #homeowners #patio #driveway #siding #refresh #gutters #commercialbuildings #businesses #softwashing #decatur #madison #huntsville

Encounters with Contrasting Regulatory Environments: Reflecting on her multifaceted regulatory encounters, Dr. Laura Purdy articulates the disparities in treatment across different states, emphasizing the need for standardized and progressive regulatory approaches. In her own words, she shares, "I have witnessed both the embrace and resistance towards modern healthcare practices. In states like Florida, I felt a sense of admiration and support for my vision. President/CEO @ Midwest Spine & Brain Institute | Founder HyperCharge Performance, Longevity and Recovery Clinics | Wellness at the Speed of Light Podcast Host | Recharging the Human Battery Radio Show Host | Speaker
Sometimes it takes our own personal battles with chronic disease to push us to challenge traditional medical thinking and push for change Robert Lufkin MD shared a compelling story on our latest podcast that resonates deeply with anyone questioning the traditional paths in medicine. As a seasoned medical school professor entrenched in the establishment, Dr. Lufkin's journey took a pivotal turn when he was diagnosed with chronic diseases. Faced with the daunting prospect of lifelong medication, he began to question everything he had been practicing and teaching. This wasn't a rebellion against the system but a necessary dive into self-initiated research to seek better health solutions beyond the prescriptions. His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of advocating for holistic approaches in health care, and it underscores the need for medical professionals to remain open and adaptive to new methodologies that might better serve our health and well-being. His personal health challenges led him to explore and advocate for treatments that extend beyond conventional medical practices, emphasizing prevention, lifestyle changes, and alternative therapies. Dr. Lufkin’s experience highlights the critical role that personal health experiences can play in shaping a medical professional's perspective and approach. It's a call to the medical community to not only rely on established protocols but to also embrace innovative practices that prioritize patient-centered care. His journey is a testament to the power of self-advocacy and the significant impact it can have on one’s professional life and beyond, inspiring both patients and colleagues to consider more integrative and personalized approaches to health. #wellnessatthespeedoflight #DrSinicropi #AmericasWellnessDoctor #RechargingTheHumanBattery #wellness #SpineSurgeron #chronicdeseases #metabolichealthy #healthcare

Proud to be among my colleagues in medicine and the C-suite, Linda Komnick, Steven Kalkanis MD, and Charles F. Barbera, MD, MBA, MPH, FACEP, FAAEM. As an oncologist, the foundational relationship that I have with a patient is based on mutual trust, which allows me to deliver care. The power of my voice as the CEO, and the influence both internally and externally, is still predicated on that foundational concept of trust. When I see patients, I ask about more than their symptoms. I want to know about their experience with the valet parking, the cafeteria, their inpatient hospital room. The best way to lead and impact our patients and our health system, is for me to fully understand both sides of the equation. https://lnkd.in/edpSBaAY
