Part of the research I am conducting for my book on the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Illinois National Guard (370th Infantry Regiment) is on the history of the National Guard. This part of the research has been fascinating. From learning about the first three regiments formed during the colonial period to the various Militia and National Defense Acts that helped to shape the Guard into what it is today, it has truly been eye opening. If I may say so myself, it is one of the most interesting chapters in the book.

The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) launched the Pineland Initiative on November 10, 2021. This new campaign focuses on expanding the Foundation’s scope of services to include pre-9/11 U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families. The Pineland Initiative, which launched in 2022, reflects a 3-year phased approach to growth and expansion of existing programs and services to accommodate the needs of the pre-9/11 Green Beret population. One key aspect of this expansion is the welcoming of additional Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) onboard GBF staff to meet the anticipated greater need for assistance with the preparation and prosecution of Veterans Affairs benefits and disability claims. These new VSOs will bring with them the added benefit of providing a Foundation presence geographically located at each of the five Active Duty Special Forces Groups, and two National Guard Special Forces Groups, located around the country. The name “Pineland” pays tribute to the shared legacy of Green Berets, past and present. This initiative is well-timed, as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army Special Forces will be commemorated this coming June 19th. With Pineland being the first initiative in GBF’s history to support Green Berets of all generations, there’s an opportunity to honor those that laid the groundwork to make the Green Berets the world’s premier, elite special operations force. The GBF is asking that those wishing to support the Pineland Initiative campaign consider making a commitment of support to the Foundation at the amount of just a $12 monthly recurring contribution. #greenberet #specialforces #militaryfamilies #veteransupport #Pineland #greenberetfoundation

Yes we talk about that it takes 24years or more to promote a General or Admiral in the military departments. But time alone without removing policies that serve as barriers can that opportunity to promotion can be achieved. Although one of few women being selected at the 4-star level. and yes few as a result of removing combat exclusion policy created in 1993, 30 years later the Navy has selected their first female Chief of Navy Operations. This one act alone propelled the next generation of military female warriors. I wonder what other policies that exist we are not paying attention to? 🤣LINGUISTICS HUMOR🤣 The reason the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines bicker among themselves, is that, they don't speak the same language. For instance, take the simple phrase - “Secure the building.” The Army would post guards around the place. The Navy would turn out the lights and lock the doors. The Marines would kill everyone inside and set up headquarters. The Air Force would take out a five year lease with an option to buy. 🔸🔹🔹🔸🔹🔹🔸🔹🔹🔸🔹🔹🔸🔹🔹🔸🔹🔹🔸 This is a perfect example of why we have miscommunications. The exact same phrase or words can mean different things to different people (based on their backgrounds, points of reference, education, life experiences). This illustrates why it’s so important to clarify meaning to assure that what we think a speaker meant is actually what the speaker intended to convey. A simple, “Please clarify exactly what you mean by ‘secure’” would go a long way to assure all branches of the military were on the same page in the same book!
