When you hear “Fail Fast”, you might think I’m telling you to mess up your code really quickly, which would be rather counterproductive. 😅 However, “Fail Fast” is actually a very useful principle of software design that focuses on early error detection and transparency to avoid having bigger problems with your project or product down the line. You can learn more about it in this week's Tuesday Tips video: https://lnkd.in/evqbmvUW #failfast #tuesdaytips #softwaredesign #codingprinciple

Embrace 🔴 Tests, Question 🟩 Ones In the world of software testing, red tests often raise eyebrows, but perhaps we should fear green ones more. Why? Green tests may mask lurking issues, offering false reassurance. Red tests, on the other hand, provide valuable insights for improvement and ensure thorough scrutiny. #systemdesign #coding #SoftwareDevelopment #softwarearchitecture

5 questions to improve your software daily. Perseverance will take you there. It's the little things. They keep you going. Big actions often kick up a lot of dust that comes back down. So stay committed to improving your software every day. Take one of these questions and start making changes: 1. What 5 small changes (code, testing, architecture, documentation) can I do? 2. What new problem have I found? 3. Which issue is related to an open ticket? 4. What is the one thing I can clean up today? 5. What term or definition did I learn? → Which question have I forgotten? #softwareengineering #softwareimprovement #dailyimprovement #questions #action

Its actually not the end of software, but the end of software engineering as we know it. Hence, the headcount x rate model where grow comes from deploying more people will become obsolete, but replaced by industrialisation of software engineering similar as machines replaced manual human and animal (horse)labour end of the 19th century. #software #industrialisation #engineering https://lnkd.in/edqqJFiD

It's hard to overstate the cost of having bugs in your software. At best, they give your users little paper cuts during an otherwise positive experience, at worst they set your users back, leaving them wishing they had never used your software in the first place. Behind the scenes, the costs of bugs continue. The time it takes to fix a bug that has made its way into production vastly exceeds the time it takes to create it. It's not uncommon for a team to spend more time fixing bugs in a new feature than they spent actually writing it. This week in the eno devlog, I wrote about "deterministic simulation testing" - a strategy I learned about from Joran Greef of TigerBeetle that lets you build a time machine to catch bugs. tldr: I was blown away by its effectiveness. https://lnkd.in/gT6PYy7g
