California’s healthcare is a️s unique as the geography and culture from Sacramento to San Diego. But one unfortunate commonality exists from end to end of the Golden State: a mental health crisis is afflicting patients, and it’s time to intervene. ⏱ Here, we discuss how data can help the state’s healthcare providers take strategic action to help vulnerable populations, measure the efficacy of programming, and pave the way towards whole-person health: https://lnkd.in/eirripBE #mentalhealth #healthcare #california

I'm happy to share my latest publication from my PhD study. Worldwide people with serious mental illnesses face challenges accessing healthcare. Despite the fact that they are at greater risk of developing physical diseases. These diseases shorten their lifespan by 10-20 years. This article highlights the recommendations of health professionals, as well as people with serious mental illness and their caregivers (whose voices are often neglected in this type of health research) about ways the public health system in Jamaica can improve healthcare access for people with co-morbid serious mental illness and chronic physical illnesses. Here is the link to article so you can read it. I promise it will raise your awareness 😀. https://lnkd.in/gVRtg4Rp #mentalhealthmatters #publichealth #NCDs #improvinghealthcare

An analysis by the Deloitte Health Equity Institute and the School of Global Health at Meharry Medical College has found that mental health inequities could lead to $14 trillion in excess costs between now and 2040, if left unaddressed. It’s imperative that we increase access to culturally-informed, evidence-based mental healthcare access by reducing stigma and addressing discrimination. https://lnkd.in/eSa4WUsh #healthequity #mentalhealth

In the realm of mental health care, the shortage of providers presents a formidable challenge. With demand skyrocketing, particularly in underserved areas, several barriers hinder access to quality care. Geographical limitations often force individuals to travel long distances for mental health services, exacerbating disparities. Even in areas with providers, long wait times for appointments are common, deterring many from seeking help. Limited treatment options further compound the issue, with some individuals receiving inadequate or standardized care due to the scarcity of providers. Stigma and cultural barriers also play a role, preventing some from seeking help and perpetuating misconceptions about mental illness. Provider burnout and turnover further strain the system, disrupting continuity of care and exacerbating the shortage. Despite these challenges, collaborative efforts between policymakers, healthcare organizations, and communities offer hope. Investments in telehealth, increased funding for workforce development, and initiatives to reduce stigma and enhance cultural competency can expand access to care. Together, let's dismantle barriers and ensure that everyone, regardless of location or circumstance, can access the mental health support they need. #MentalHealth #AccessToCare #BreakBarriers 🌟

Imagine you had a problem. But, there was a solution to that problem. That solution had been studied through years of research. That solution had positive effects for all stakeholders. And - wait for it - it turns out it would also save you money! Would you take it? The answer is obvious, right? Everyone talks about the mental health care system being "broken" but it turns out there is, in fact, a solution. We just need to put it into action. Mirah was built to help practices, organizations, and health systems do just that. So, we're honored to support and be featured in the Issue Brief put together by The Bowman Family Foundation advocating for the wide-scale adoption of collaborative care and offering a clear, tangible call-to-action for governing bodies, regulators, and payers to drive it.
