🎓 As we step into the beginning of 2024, I'm thrilled to share a significant milestone in my academic journey – successfully defending my PhD thesis at Karolinska Institutet in October 2023. https://lnkd.in/dSe24PAx https://lnkd.in/dfMBgsfw 🌟 My deepest thanks to my main supervisor, Professor Christer Betsholtz. Finding the right words is a challenge, but his unwavering support and guidance, without which I would have never completed my PhD, make concluding this chapter under his mentorship an honor. Transitioning from the challenges I faced to the paradise of working with him is beyond words. I eagerly look forward to the exciting adventures and meaningful research that await under his guidance. Special appreciation to Mattias Svensson, the head of PhD studies at MedH, and my co-supervisors Ákos Végvári, and Prof. Lars Lund, as well as all my colleagues and friends. Special thanks also to AstraZeneca for the invaluable support of my PhD, especially Kenny Hansson. Acknowledging my opponent, Prof. Claes Gustafsson, for insightful discussions during my defense, and my thesis reviewers Professors Maria Falkenberg and Tomas Ekström, along with all committee members Andreas Lennartsson, Hong Qian, and Professor Anders Virtanen for their constructive inputs, as well as Eike-Benjamin Braune for professionally chairing my defense. 🙅♂️ Reflecting on this 9-YEAR journey brings a mix of emotions. The path was challenging, marked by tough decisions, especially when I chose to take a stand against suspected data fabrications and falsifications in Ralph Knöll's lab at Karolinska.– a choice that led to a chapter of resilience against pressure, bullying, and blackmail, targeting not only me but also those who stood by my side. However, I'll never regret this choice, and I'll never compromise my values, morals, and ethics, regardless of the pressures I face. Heartfelt thanks to all who supported me! Onwards and upwards! Read my following posts where I'll share more about the unique experiences faced against scientific misconduct, and also address circulating misinformation. Here's to new beginnings and a year filled with discovery and growth! 🚀🎓🙌 #PhD #DefenceDay #AcademicJourney #ScientificIntegrity #NeverGiveUp

I am thrilled and honored to announce my selection as an HHMI Gilliam Fellow! This fellowship is a vital step toward advancing representation and inclusivity in science, and I am committed to using this opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Over the coming years, my research will focus on developing scientific and management tools to address the climate crisis affecting coral reef ecosystems in the Caribbean. Specifically, I will investigate the role of ocean viruses in shaping the health and resilience of corals and reef fishes in Puerto Rico. It is crucial that our work not only expands the scientific understanding but, more importantly, provides actionable insights and tools to empower and protect the coastal homelands and waters that are most vulnerable. This research is about more than just data; it's about fostering community resilience, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and ensuring a future where everyone, especially those on the frontlines of climate change, has a voice in the conversation. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable future for all! https://lnkd.in/eM3JeBBk
