"My two-year-old is too young to know about climate change. He doesn’t understand what an "urban heat island" is either. He just knows that his papa keeps saying “No” because it's too hot out to go to our local park in Point Breeze, South Philadelphia, which lacks the shady tree cover found in other neighborhoods." An eye-opening quote regarding extreme heat around our communities by Carlos Claussell Velez in TIME, strengthening the conversation on how trees are vital in heat waves. https://lnkd.in/gCwz6GVr

I have a creek area running through my back yard and I stepped under the tree canopy the other day and it was amazing. I would have stayed there the rest of the day...but mosquitos. We keep trying to invent carbon-reducing machines and practices...just plant trees EVERYWHERE and see what happens. If we truly want to be good stewards and make our cities truly green...work trees into city planning. Not just in parks, but in urban areas. They offer aesthetic value, carbon reduction, and cooling effects. It's been right under our noses...errrr...above our heads the whole time.

I live in a mostly urban space -- the summers have been absolutely brutal lately. After visiting tree cities in North Carolina and Michigan, the same temperature that is insufferable at home is so much nicer. My heat intolerance didn't flare up at all. We need more trees!
