Reason Three why you may choose to give to Rocky Mountain Wild in these last few days of the end-of-the-year fundraising: Better Public Lands Management. This year, the Bureau of Land Management proposed a Public Lands Rule that would modernize their national policies to balance conservation with other uses on public lands. Alison led a virtual workshop about commenting on the rule and worked with partner organizations to support this important reform. The deadline to submit applications for Oconomowoc Area Foundation's 2024 grant cycle is quickly approaching! The foundation makes grants to nonprofits that serve communities within the Oconomowoc Area School District, including the towns of Ashippun, Ixonia, Okauchee, Summit, Dousman and Nashotah. The nonprofit does not have to be physically located within the greater Oconomowoc area, but it must demonstrate it provides services to the residents of these communities. Its funding priorities are the following: ✨Programs for children and youth ✨Programs providing support services for the elderly. ✨Programs providing support services for people facing undue hardship or life-threatening conditions. ✨Programs that preserve and protect the environment and wildlife. ✨Programs that enrich the community through economic, cultural, and arts development.

As we all watch the devastation caused by wildfires in Jasper with broken hearts and a desire to help, we're hoping to quickly mobilize our community and collaborate with a shared purpose. We expect there will be substantial resources emerging to help rebuild the infrastructure, so our immediate focus is to get some money into the hands of the thousands of Jasper hospitality and tourism workers who are seeing their livelihoods destroyed during the peak summer season. There are many steps and discussions to come, but for now we want to create a contact list of all the Edmonton-area businesses and community leaders who want to be part of this initiative. Next steps may include: - Identify the best nonprofit/agency to hold and disburse the funds for our intended purpose - Identify and create key messaging, promotional materials and media - Explore the potential of larger fundraising events - Coordinate smaller campaigns - Identify potential donors and champions. County leaders may limit how much money they give to nonprofit groups and projects serving low-income neighborhoods in light of looming budget challenges. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors today is considering capping community spending per district at $1 million, but potentially raising the ceiling to $2 million for districts with greater need, such as District 2. The county’s technical term for such spending is “inventory items.” During the budget process, supervisors can propose one-time funds related to various community programs.
