In the hospitality industry, people are at the core of everything we do. If we’re not serving our people with a commitment to the values that give our organization its heart, we’re doing a disservice not just to our employees, but to every guest who walks through our doors. People are the backbone of organizational culture. The values of our people define our culture. By defining one’s core values, we are protecting, building, and strengthening culture. Culture is proving to be one of, if not, the biggest driver to success. After spending over a year defining SSA’s cultural values, with the help of our friends and partners at Behavioral Essentials, we have learned a lot! Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve learned along the way: https://lnkd.in/g-BD2yiT

Still reflecting on last week's HHM Hotels conference at The Westin Philadelphia Grateful for the opportunity to be surrounded by our Leadership team, Regional Support Heroes, and the resilience of all our General Managers. Matt Nelson and Justin Hersker, thank you for hosting a successful event that left me with valuable insights. Here are some key takeaways from my notes: - Building around future growth - Speaking with one voice - Churn rate - Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning - "Luck favors the prepared and the ready." - Asset leverage and owner's return expectations - "Brand experience: sensations, feelings, cognitions, and behavioral responses evoked by brand-related stimuli" - Guest Journey: walk the hotel, teamwork, identify, make it a standard - Hiring: Perks, Recognition, Rewards, Culture, Development - Adversity, it shapes you - Running shoes 👟[IYKYK] #HHM #OneForce #OneGoal

Mine and the wider teams throughout Sodexo are in the process of setting objectives for the coming year, and this image sums up the importance in a clear visual way. Choosing something that you want to find easy but don’t is the first step towards personal growth, once you have set an objective your journey can begin. At first it will feel like an uphill battle, you aren’t an expert and talking about anything with confidence is hard… but through time you will grow in confidence, gain knowledge that you can own and use day to day and as the months pass you will have effortlessly achieved your objective! So be confident in what you aspire too, this isn’t only a tick a box, it’s a way of achieving your goals!!! #objectives #goals #theworldisyouroyster Veronica Jeffrey Chris Pollington Ana-Maria Serban James Daniels Sherrie McQueen

My colleague, Trish Calder, has insisted I relax during my elected extended vacation time this summer. So, today I listened to her advice and I set up this hammock in my backyard. Staying true to my continuous improvement DNA, it wasn’t long before I was thinking about the principles of continuous improvement and my new hammock. At first, it might seem like an odd comparison, but stay with me. As lay there relaxed, gazing into the overhanging branches, a few thoughts came to mind: Just as a hammock requires a balance between two trees to function correctly, continuous improvement thrives on a balance of various factors within an organization. Support and Stability: A hammock needs strong and stable trees to support it, just like continuous improvement requires a solid foundation of leadership and organizational support. Tension and Flexibility: The straps of a hammock need the right amount of tension – too tight, and it becomes uncomfortable; too loose, and it doesn’t hold. Similarly, continuous improvement needs the right balance of structure and flexibility to adapt to changes and challenges. Comfort and Resilience: A hammock provides comfort and a place to relax, much like a well-implemented continuous improvement strategy can create a more efficient and stress-free work environment. However, both need to be resilient and well-maintained to ensure long-term success. Alignment and Purpose: Just as the hammock must be correctly aligned between the trees, continuous improvement initiatives must align with the organization's goals and objectives to be effective. Setting up and enjoying a hammock requires some initial effort, but once it's in place, it offers a perfect place to relax and reflect. Continuous improvement might also require initial investments in time and resources, but the long-term benefits of efficiency, productivity, and employee satisfaction make it all worthwhile. Remember, whether it's a hammock or continuous improvement, the key is to find the right balance. Thanks for the suggestion Trish! #ContinuousImprovement #LeanSixSigma #Leadership #WorkLifeBalance #CultivatingChampionsofCI

As someone deeply passionate about both people and service excellence, I've found that infusing fun and compassion into team leadership not only enhances workplace morale but also drives outstanding guest experiences. Leading with fun doesn't just mean organizing team-building activities (although those are a blast!), but it's about creating an environment where laughter is encouraged, creativity flourishes, and colleagues genuinely enjoy coming to work each day. Whether it's a spontaneous dance break, a moment to get a fun picture together or simply sharing a funny story during a shift briefing, injecting joy into the workplace fosters stronger connections and boosts team morale. Moreover, leading with compassion is at the core of my leadership philosophy. Recognizing that each team member brings their unique strengths and challenges to the table, I strive to cultivate a culture of empathy and support. Whether it's offering a listening ear, providing flexible scheduling to accommodate personal needs, or celebrating individual achievements, I believe that empathy builds trust and loyalty within the team. In the end, leading with fun and compassion isn't just about creating a positive work environment; it's about nurturing a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to deliver their best. Together, let's continue to elevate the hospitality industry by leading with heart and joy! #Leader #HospitalityLeadership #TeamCulture #FunAndCompassion #Team Here's a fun little caricature that me and a few of the set up/service staff had done by Ink Well Cartoon (inkwellcartoon.co.uk) while we waited for guests to arrive at a wedding last week… Manor House Country Hotel
