Empowering Los Angeles workers! LAUNCH Apprenticeship Network received a $1.1 million grant from The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation to expand apprenticeship opportunities for Los Angeles residents in high-growth sectors like IT/cyber, education, and entertainment. “By forging partnerships between community colleges and employers, LAUNCH is reimagining how young people from historically marginalized communities access family wage-earning jobs,” said Gerun Riley, President of The Broad Foundation. With capacity-building support from The Broad Foundation, LAUNCH will partner with the 19 California Community Colleges that make up the Los Angeles RC to develop a comprehensive strategy to increase awareness of apprenticeships among high school students, engage over 100 employers in designing apprenticeships, and register close to 200 new apprentices by the end of 2027. This partnership is set to redefine apprenticeship opportunities across Los Angeles, opening doors to diverse career pathways and economic mobility for Angelenos. #NAW2024 It’s National Apprenticeship Week from 5th – 11th of February 2024, an annual, week-long celebration of apprenticeships and anyone involved with them. The week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. The theme for this year is ‘Skills for Life’, reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.
