Introducing: Slack Import with Message History: Import your Slack channels to Roam Group Chat, including up to five years of message history, file & media attachments, and custom emoji. Choose which channels you’d like to import and also include any external connections. Continue where you left off in Slack in Roam Group Chat. Chat UX Improvements including Timestamps: Timestamps now appear for every message either directly or upon hover. Virtual Badge Time Zone. Display your local time on your virtual badge by setting your time zone. Choose a specific time zone or “Auto Detect” and Roam will update your time zone automatically. Click on your profile picture to edit your virtual badge. Screenshare Flexibility - You can now drag the screenshare capsule to any location on your screen or a second screen by clicking the handle on the left.

Hey Microsoft, generic words for product names make for awkward language. When designing the usability of your services, are you thinking of how I can talk about using them in daily language? “I’ll set up a team on Teams,” or “let me loop you in the Loop doc.” Or was it intentional? Maybe I’m old fashioned but I like how Slack became a term that stands for the function the service enables, but doesn’t create ambiguity in context, and doesn’t require capitalization for clarity. I think product and service naming, and how that drives daily language around usage, is part of usability and accessibility…

Frame.io released a video showing some of the new features coming in update 4.0. I still think Frame.io is one of the best collaboration tools out there for video production work, but the app is getting very busy. I'm concerned it's starting to become an "everything app" rather than focusing on making work more efficient for production teams. I'm starting to feel like I will need to have training sessions to onboard new producers before they can use the tool, whereas in the past it was mostly self explanatory. Something I'd love for the team at Frame.io to focus on next is to simplify the app for reviewers and/or adding more options to turn off functionality for specific roles. Lots of execs and non-technical users need to review content and their eyes glaze over when we show them this app. Just getting an exec to login can be a challenge 😅.
