Today I shared more about Monday's deals (CED acquiring Parrish-Hare and Synergy Electrical Sales merging with ELA) and highlighted the 16 electrical deals that have occurred in the past 60 days ... with some "why"? The electrical distribution and manufacturer rep / lighting agent segments are in an arms race. You can tell when it's getting to the end of the quarter in the electrical industry. Not only are salespeople with publicly held manufacturers pushing to close deals (need to make the quarter), but the acquisition market heats up! Last week Graybar announced they acquired Blazer Electric Supply Company 2.0 Monday, CED announced that it acquired Parrish-Hare / Power-House Electrical Supply sharing ... "CED has acquired certain assets of Parrish-Hare / Power-House Electrical Supply located in Irving, Texas. Parrish-Hare's four locations (Irving, Haltom City, Midlothian, and Ennis), which operate under the names Parrish-Hare and Power-House, will operate as a separate subsidiary of CED under the continued leadership of Parrish-Hare founder Pat Hare and his team." And, in the rep / lighting agent world, Synergy Electrical Sales acquired Electric Lighting Agencies, Inc. (ELA). By my count, 16 distributor, rep and lighting agent deals so far this year. Now that summertime is over, we know what some companies were up to ... negotiating to acquire / sell companies! Between the end of August and the first week or so of September there were 5 deals announced in the electrical industry. 3 distributors were acquired, and 2 lighting agents made acquisitions. For each acquirer, the acquisition was an element of a strategy to enhance / diversify their business. For most of the acquired, the issue was succession planning / lack of generational succession. The big deal was Sonepar USA acquiring Summit Electric Supply. Check out the analysis https://lnkd.in/dSicKujZ Food for thought regarding Sonepar? They've now acquired over $1.8 billion of electrical distributor sales (based upon 2023 revenues) so far this year! This makes them the largest US electrical / utility distributor (based upon solely US-derived electrical product sales.) Manufacturers expect more to happen (and we've heard of some manufacturers that are "talking" to others, so expect to see consolidation in this segment ... and other than small lighting companies.) Manufacturers are talking about how this in their strategy planning sessions. Independent distributors need to be very intentional about their strategy ... take share, target niches, or harvest the business.

Coates targets growth through acquisitions Seven Group Holdings, owner of Australia-based rental company Coates has said that it intends to leverage market opportunties by targeting growth through acquisitions and fleet and branch enhancement. In its report for the 2024 financial year, the company said it expects market opportunties in the form of a multi-year surge in road and rail infrastructure, government investment in social infrastructure, a ramp-up in industrial and warehousing investment, and strong growth in residential construction. To position itself to make the most of this, the company said it would target small-scale acquisitions, some of which will be funded by the the sale of Coates Indonesia, which the company sold to Mitsubishi Corporation in a $64.4 million deal (€38.7 million) back in April as it switches focus on primary businesses in Australia. The company’s plans for growth come off the back of two acquisitions in 2024, which it described as fleet-focused purchases. The deals for GTH Equipment and Baxter Equipment increased its hire fleet by $83 million (€49 million) to $1.9 billion (€1.1 billion) on an original cost basis. Meanwhile, the company posted rental revenues of AUS$1.1 billion (€680 million) for the 2024 financial year, up by 1.5% on 2023. Its EBIT increased by 8.8% to $326.7 million (€196 million). It said that demand in site accommodation and material handling played a role in the increase, while the company also saw strong customer activity in western Australia and Queensland, with strong demand from customers in mining and oil and gas. It described its total revenue of $1,142.3 million (€687 million) for the year as “relatively flat year-on-year”, reflecting one off product sales in the prior year. 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗: Bosch acquires residential and light commercial HVAC business from Johnson Controls and Hitachi Bosch, the supplier of technology and services, is continuing its growth course with a strategic acquisition. For its Energy and Building Technology business sector, the Bosch Group plans to take over the global HVAC solutions business for residential and light commercial buildings from Johnson Controls. As part of this transaction, Bosch also intends to acquire 100 percent of the Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning (JCH) joint venture, including Hitachi’s 40 percent stake. The Bosch shareholders and supervisory board have approved the transaction. Binding agreements on the acquisitions were signed by the parties involved today. The acquisition is subject to approvals from the antitrust authorities. The purchase price for the acquired businesses is 8 billion dollars (7.4 billion euros). The acquisition is expected to be closed in approximately 12 months. Bosch is a Corporate Partner and has been a member of the ECCP since 1993.
